Home Sweet Home only ends after one complete forced loop. On the second run, save your siblings as usual, turn right into the side yard instead of climbing toward the church, use Focus Mode on the well, and choose the dialogue option that mentions Alin. That opens the route out of Aurelius’s Tower. [1][2][3]
This main-story quest takes place in Aurelius’s Tower in The Silts and temporarily removes Coen’s weapons, armor, and upgrades. Prepare for a fixed memory sequence rather than a build check: positioning matters in the crowd fights, while Focus Mode and the well are the real escape mechanics. The steps below reflect the September 2026 launch build on PC and consoles. [1][3][4]

Start Home Sweet Home at Aurelius’s Tower
Aurelius’s Tower stands in the southwest of the world map, in The Silts, south of the Turtle Rock shrine and close to the Aurelius’s Tower shrine fast-travel point. The tower sequence comes well after the opening chapters, so use the existing The Blood of Dawnwalker prologue guide for early-story context rather than returning to prologue objectives here.
- Travel to Aurelius’s Tower in The Silts.
- Enter through the second-floor window and climb through the interior. Trying to scale the exterior requires fully upgraded vampire traversal, so the window route is the intended approach for most players.
- Climb the tower, defeat Svetlana, the Dark Prodigy, and continue to the confrontation with Aurelius.
- Take Silas’s Book from the table, then climb to the ritual room at the top.
- Save before interacting with the locked ritual door. Opening it consumes 4 Time Segments, also displayed as four Tab slots, and commits Coen to the memory sequence.
The man performing a ritual is visible through the door’s window. Open the door to begin Home Sweet Home and enter the distorted version of Coen’s childhood home. [3][4]
Complete the First Loop the Normal Way
The first pass is mandatory. Coen wakes in the family home with no equipped gear, so there is no value in planning around your regular weapon upgrades, armor bonuses, or specialized early-game setup. The quest hands you a scripted route and only unlocks the escape branch after you have seen it through once.
- Chop wood for Pieter. The loop begins in the yard outside the house. Finish the chore prompt, then enter the house.
- Watch the family lunch scene. Coen eats with Pieter, Esme, and his siblings before the memory becomes hostile.
- Clear the courtyard specters. The first group consists of Spectral Skeletons. They are weak individually, but keep moving so the group cannot surround you.
- Fight through the town center. The next concentration of enemies includes Vidmo Specters and red-robed raiders. Prioritize space and crowd control over chasing a single target through the pack.
- Reach the church gate. Defeat the gargoyle miniboss, Keeper of Nightmares, to enter the church.
Entering the church on this first pass resets Home Sweet Home to the family house. The reset is required; it establishes the loop and enables the well interaction on the next run. Keeper of Nightmares is therefore worth defeating once, but the church is the trap route after that. [1][3][4]

Break the Loop Through the Well on Run Two
Repeat the wood-chopping and lunch sequence, then fight through the village again until you have saved Coen’s siblings from the second enemy wave. Send them toward the church as the quest directs. At this point, do not follow the uphill path toward Pieter and the church gate.
- From the combat area, turn right into the side yard near the town instead of heading uphill.
- Activate Focus Mode. The vision ability highlights a stone well that was not usable during the first loop.
- Approach the well and interact with it to speak to Coen’s shadowy vampire self.
- Choose the dialogue response that references Alin.
Focus Mode is essential here. The well is easy to miss because the normal quest flow keeps pointing toward the church, and simply walking into the side yard without using Focus Mode does not reveal the new interaction properly. If the well does not respond, confirm that you completed the entire first loop and cleared the second specter encounter before returning to this point. [1][2][3]
Spoilers: Follow the Shadow Route and Reach the Portal
The well conversation grants or reinforces Shadowstep, also called Planeshift in some quest descriptions. Follow the trail of snow after the conversation, use the traversal ability across the elevated ledges, and continue toward the red portal beyond the town center.
Use the red portal when you reach it. Instead of appearing at the front church gate and restarting the familiar sequence, Coen arrives through a back entrance in a different version of the church. That visual change confirms that the loop route has been broken. [2][3][4]
The temporary loss of gear during Home Sweet Home makes this a poor place to judge normal build performance. Once the quest is complete, return to the early-build guide for The Blood of Dawnwalker before investing resources in a combat setup; the tower memory does not reflect Coen’s regular combat options.

Spoilers: Solve the Funeral Memory in the Correct Order
Inside the altered church, a priest delivers a sermon over a coffin. Inspect the three key figures in this exact order:
- Alin in the coffin.
- Esme, Coen’s mother, standing on the right.
- Coen as a child, standing on the left.
Alin → Esme → Coen allows the sermon to continue and stabilizes the memory. Inspecting them out of order stalls this section and can send the sequence back into repetition, so pause before interacting if the scene feels unclear. The earlier well choice and this inspection order both center Alin as the key to progressing through the memory. [1][2][3]
Finish Home Sweet Home and Return to Aurelius’s Tower
After the funeral scene, leave the church for the forest clearing, inspect the area, and follow the downhill path to the river. There is no further mandatory combat on this final stretch. Reaching the river ends the nightmare and returns Coen to reality in Aurelius’s Tower in The Silts. [1][3][4]
Home Sweet Home Branches and Mistakes to Avoid
- Going to the church after the first loop: This is the default path. Beat Keeper of Nightmares, enter the church, and the memory resets. On later loops, it keeps Coen trapped instead of advancing the quest.
- Missing the right turn: After saving the siblings, turn right into the side yard. Continuing uphill toward the church skips the well branch completely.
- Skipping Focus Mode: The well route depends on Focus Mode. Treat the ability as a quest scanner here, not an optional visual aid.
- Choosing a non-Alin response: The documented progression response is the option mentioning Alin. Alternative dialogue outcomes are not fully detailed, so choose Alin when the shadow asks.
- Repeating the loop for a reward: Additional repetitions can add narrative flavor, with some accounts describing up to five loops, but no specific repeat-loop reward is established. Break out through the well once the route is available.
Practical Wrap-Up
Save before spending the 4 Time Segments at Aurelius’s ritual door, finish the church route once, then treat the second loop as the real solution: save the siblings, turn right, reveal the well with Focus Mode, choose Alin, and inspect Alin, Esme, and child Coen in that order. That route ends Home Sweet Home and restores progression out of Aurelius’s Tower.
