The Blood of Dawnwalker: How to Save Gremla in Blasphemy

FinalBoss9 min read

To save Gremla in The Blood of Dawnwalker, start the Blasphemy side quest before the Blood Mass, investigate the stolen banner, make Premysl return it, and tell Gremla that Premysl has the banner. Avoid agreeing to hide his secret with the dialogue line “Maybe you’re right…”. [1][2][6]

The key trap comes before the investigation even begins: choosing to wait with Pieter until the Mass locks the village’s side quests, including Gremla’s, for that day. This route applies on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, and the quest choices and outcomes are the same across those versions. [1][8][12]

Table of Contents (7)

Start Blasphemy Before the Blood Mass

Finish the early sparring and conversation sequence with Pieter first. When he offers to wait together until the Mass, select “See you then” rather than waiting with him. That keeps the daytime exploration window open and lets you access Gremla’s quest. If you choose to wait with Pieter, Blasphemy does not open that day. [1]

Leave yourself at least two in-game time segments before the evening Blood Mass. Blasphemy sends you from Gremla’s home to the northeast part of Laslea and back again, so starting it late can cut off the final report to Gremla. If you are planning the wider opening sequence, use the FinalBoss prologue route guide for the other time-sensitive village choices.

To find Gremla, head from your home toward the village, then take the path away from your house and look for the small group gathered near the cows and the sheds. Gremla is outside her house in the southwest part of Laslea, kneeling in distress while villagers watch. Speak to her and choose the first supportive response that offers to help. Choosing the other response can leave Blasphemy unstarted, so this first conversation matters more than it looks. [1][4]

Once she asks for help, accept the investigation right away. This is the branch that leads to the banner search and the later choice with Premysl. If your goal is specifically to keep Gremla alive, this is the moment to commit to the quest instead of treating it like flavor dialogue. [1][4][6]

Investigate Gremla’s Stolen Banner

Once Gremla asks for help finding her banner, the immediate objective is to examine her shed and the ground around it. Use Focus Mode, the game’s investigation view, to reveal evidence you can inspect. On controller, Focus Mode is mapped to L2. While it is active, relevant objects stand out so you can follow the trail instead of guessing. [1][7][13]

  • Inspect the weaving loom inside the shed. Go into the shed directly behind or beside Gremla and examine the broken loom first. This confirms the banner was torn away rather than simply misplaced.
  • Exit and check the left side of the shed. From the front of the building, move around its left exterior and inspect the footprints and cane marks. Examine them repeatedly until the game stops giving new information.
  • Find the banner fragment in the grass. It lies a short distance beyond the tracks. Inspect it, then rotate the fragment in the examination view to reveal blood on its reverse side.

That order is worth following because it keeps the investigation readable. The broken loom tells you there was a struggle over the banner. The tracks outside narrow the suspect to someone using a cane. The torn fragment adds the last important detail when you turn it over and see blood on the back. Together, the clues point to a villager with a cane and an injured hand. [2][5][6]

If the quest feels stalled, double-check the exterior evidence and the fragment. The footprints and cane marks may need more than one inspection, and the banner scrap is not fully processed until you rotate it in the close-up view. Blasphemy is less about fighting your way through a problem and more about making sure the clue chain is fully complete before you move on. [1][2][7][13]

Find Premysl in Northeast Laslea

The evidence points to Premysl, the cane-using villager in the northeast area of Laslea. You can question Otokar and Dana for additional hints if you want a cleaner lead-in, but those conversations are optional and do not change Gremla’s ending. If the Blood Mass clock is getting close, going straight to Premysl is the faster route. [4][13]

Premysl initially resists the accusation, then explains that he stole and changed the banner. His conversation is the real decision point of the quest. This is not a combat check and it is not about your build; it comes down to whether you push him to give the banner back or go along with his secrecy. [2][4][6]

For the rescue route, keep pressing the line that makes him return the banner and reject the idea of keeping the theft hidden. The important thing is your final stance. If your dialogue lands on exposing what he did and making sure the banner goes back, you are still on Gremla’s survival path. [2][4][5][6]

In particular, do not end the conversation by choosing “Maybe you’re right…”. That response aligns you with Premysl’s plan to keep the altered tapestry secret. Some routing advice treats this branch as a way to chase Premysl’s Daylight Amulet, but it is not the dependable route if your only priority is saving Gremla. The safe play is simple: make Premysl give the banner back and do not agree to conceal what he did. [2][4][6]

Spoilers: Report Premysl to Save Gremla

Story spoilers for the Blood Mass follow.

Return to Gremla after confronting Premysl and tell her the truth: Premysl has the banner, and she will get it back. This is the final required step. Persuading Premysl alone is not enough if you then hide his identity from Gremla. If you are close to evening, do this immediately rather than wandering off to handle something else in the village. [2][6]

  • Safe outcome: Make Premysl return the banner, tell Gremla that he took it, and complete the report before Mass. Gremla survives, gets her banner back, and rewards you with 25 denarius. At the Blood Mass, the altered banner is displayed in the church instead of Gremla being punished. [2][6]
  • Secret-keeping outcome: Agree with Premysl’s plan, or return to Gremla and claim that you do not know who stole the banner. Gremla remains unaware of Premysl’s role and is killed during the Blood Mass. Choosing to protect Premysl can award the Daylight Amulet. [2][6]
  • Concealment outcome without the rescue: If you solve the case but keep Premysl’s identity from Gremla, you do not get the 25 denarius reward tied to telling her the truth, and Gremla still dies in the evening. [6]

That is the part many players miss: the rescue route does not end when you identify Premysl. It ends when Gremla learns the truth before the Blood Mass. Think of the quest as two checks in a row: first, confront the right villager; second, report the result back to the victim. Skip the second half and the quest can still collapse into the bad ending. [2][4][6]

The 25 denarius rescue outcome is the reliable reward for players who want Gremla alive. Treat the Daylight Amulet route as a separate moral and reward branch instead of gambling Gremla’s survival on a mixed path. For combat preparation outside this quest, the FinalBoss early-build guide covers the opening Swordmastery, Witchcraft, and Vampirism options without spending Blasphemy’s limited daytime window.

Blasphemy Rescue Route Checklist

  • Complete Pieter’s early sparring sequence.
  • Choose “See you then”; do not wait with Pieter until the Mass.
  • Keep at least two time segments available.
  • Find Gremla outside her house and shed in southwest Laslea.
  • Choose the first supportive dialogue response and accept the banner investigation.
  • Use Focus Mode on the broken loom, the footprints and cane marks, and the torn banner fragment.
  • Rotate the banner fragment to find the blood on its back.
  • Go northeast and confront Premysl.
  • Make him return the banner; avoid “Maybe you’re right…”.
  • Return to Gremla and state that Premysl has the banner before the Blood Mass.

What to Expect After Choosing the Rescue Route

Blasphemy is a short early-game investigation, but its outcome is locked by dialogue and the evening deadline rather than combat ability. If you want the clean answer, it is this: do not wait with Pieter, do not brush Gremla off, do not agree with Premysl, and do not leave the village without reporting back. Save Gremla by treating that final report as mandatory. Expose Premysl, secure the banner’s return, and speak to Gremla before the Blood Mass triggers. [1][2][6]
