Why Chapter 1 Matters (and Why It Can Be Sneaky)

After spending a couple of hours fumbling through the Forest of No Entry, I realised Chapter 1 of The Liar Princess and the Blind Prince is more than a tutorial. It quietly tests whether you’ve really learned how to swap forms, position the prince, and use lifts, seesaw logs, and collapsing platforms without getting him killed.

This guide walks you through all four Chapter 1 stages on PC (Steam), focusing on two things:

  • Exactly when to switch between princess and wolf
  • Exactly how and where to move or command the prince so he survives

If you’ve ever watched him step off a ledge or vanish into a pit because you mis-timed a transformation, you’re in the right place.

Core Mechanics You Must Master Before the Forest

Before we walk through each stage, here’s what I wish I’d focused on earlier. Getting these into muscle memory makes the whole chapter smoother.

Princess vs. Wolf – When to Use Which

You can switch between forms with your Transform button (check your keybinds or controller layout, but the icon appears on-screen).

  • Princess form:
    • Can hold the prince’s hand and lead him
    • Can interact with levers, flowers, and switches
    • Cannot fight, jump as high, or survive direct enemy contact
  • Wolf form:
    • Can attack enemies and break boxes
    • Jumps higher and farther, great for platforms
    • Cannot hold the prince’s hand or guide him

The breakthrough for me was to stop treating forms as “combat vs. non-combat” and instead think “wolf for movement and danger; princess for everything involving the prince.” Any time the prince needs to change height (lift, log, platform), I double-check that I’m a princess first.

Holding Hands vs. Letting the Prince Stand

When you’re a princess, you can:

  • Hold hands – press the Interact / hand-holding button near the prince to link up and move him with you.
  • Let go – press the same button to leave him standing where he is.

Don’t make my early mistake of dragging him into every hazard. Many puzzles in Chapter 1 are solved by:

  • Parking the prince safely on solid ground or on a plate
  • Then switching to wolf and doing risky jumps or enemy cleanup alone

Commanding the Prince to Walk on His Own

In the later stages of Chapter 1, you learn to command the prince to move small distances by himself. This is crucial for collapsing platforms.

  • While holding his hand, press the Command button (prompt shown on-screen).
  • An arrow will appear, showing how far he’ll walk forward or backward.
  • Adjust the direction and confirm so he walks to that spot and then stops.

Always preview where the arrow ends. If the line stops in mid-air or on a collapsing platform you’re not ready to cross, adjust it. I wiped multiple times by sending him a little too far.

Stage 1 – Dappled Sunlight Trail

This stage feels simple, but it quietly tests your basic combat, jumping, and lift use.

Opening Path and First Enemies

Walk to the right in princess form, holding the prince’s hand. When the first enemy appears:

  • Let go of the prince a few steps back from the enemy.
  • Transform into a wolf with Transform.
  • Move in and attack with your Attack button until the enemy dies.
  • Transform back into the princess and rejoin the prince.

Repeat this pattern for each early enemy. Don’t try to fight while attached to the prince; you’ll just end up exposing him to hits.

First Drop and Petals

Drop down the ledge. On the left is a small alcove with petals-grab them if you’re aiming for 100% memories. Then head right to continue.

Lift and Lever Puzzle

You’ll reach a lift stuck at the bottom with a lever on a higher ledge to the right.

  • Leave the prince on solid ground by the lift.
  • Ride the lift up alone, then transform into the wolf mid-jump to reach the upper ledge.
  • Transform back to princess and interact with the lever to raise the lift.
  • Return down or call the lift and bring the prince up with you.

Tip: If you struggle to reach the ledge, transform into the wolf before you jump. The higher wolf jump is what makes this work.

Seesaw Log and First Pressure Plate

Next is a seesaw-style log with enemies beyond.

  • Leave the prince behind.
  • Cross in wolf form and clear all enemies on the far side.
  • Return as a princess and escort the prince across the now-safe path.

A bit further, you’ll find a floor plate linked to a lift:

  • Make the prince stand on the lift.
  • Walk onto the plate in princess form to activate it.
  • Stay on the plate until the lift reaches the upper ledge, then step off.
  • Transform into the wolf to jump onto the lift and guide the prince onward.

Breaking a Collapsing Platform

Shortly after, you’ll hit your first collapsing platform. It won’t break under just the princess and prince, but it will under the heavier wolf.

  • Walk onto the platform with the prince.
  • Once you’re both standing on it, transform into the wolf.
  • The platform will collapse, dropping you both to the lower path.

This “transform on the platform” trick shows up repeatedly in the game, so remember it.

Key on the Seesaw and Ending the Stage

You’ll face another seesaw log, this time with a locked door to the right.

  • Make the prince stand on the rightmost edge of the log. His weight pushes that side down.
  • The left side rises; transform into the wolf and use the height to jump to the upper left ledge.
  • Break the wooden box there in wolf form to reveal a key.
  • Continue left a bit for optional petals, then return right.
  • Transform back into the princess, grab the prince, and use the key on the locked door.

Go through to finish Stage 1 and move to the deeper forest.

Stage 2 – Calming Flower and Turtle Platforms

This stage introduces tighter spaces and your first real “escort under pressure” moment.

Ambush and First Flower

As you enter, a small monster will grab the prince in a story scene. The princess saves him, but he’s shaken.

Pick up the nearby flower in princess form and bring it back to him. This calms him and teaches you the basic “pick up and deliver” interaction with flowers that later becomes important for collectibles.

Narrow Tunnel with Enemy

Ahead is a tight low tunnel where you cannot transform into the wolf. Don’t drag the prince in yet.

  • Leave the prince safely outside the tunnel.
  • Crawl through alone as a princess.
  • On the far side, transform into the wolf and deal with the waiting enemy.
  • Once the area is clear, return to princess form, walk back through the tunnel, grab the prince, and lead him through.

Lift, Petal, and First Turtle Platform

You’ll reach a lift; ride it up. To the left is a petal; grab it if you’re collecting. To the right is a collapsing platform with a turtle on it.

  • Hold the prince’s hand.
  • Jump directly onto the turtle’s back, not the wooden platform.
  • If you touch the platform instead of the turtle, it breaks and you both fall.

Time your jump so you land squarely on the turtle’s shell. I found it easiest to walk to the very edge, then do a short hop forward while still holding his hand.

Upper Switch and Multi-Turtle Drop

At a dead-end lift that doesn’t move:

  • Leave the prince on the lift.
  • Transform into the wolf and jump to the left ledge.
  • Flip the switch there to power the lift.
  • Ride it up with the prince.

At the top, grab another petal from the left ledge if you like. Then to the right, break another collapsing platform by standing on it with the prince and transforming into the wolf.

Below is a longer sequence of collapsing platforms and two turtles:

  • Hold the prince’s hand the whole time.
  • Jump from turtle to turtle, avoiding standing on any wooden platform pieces too long.
  • Use short, controlled jumps; overjumping is the main way to fail here.

Clear the group of enemies at the bottom in wolf form and proceed to the next stage.

Stage 3 – Learning Prince Commands and Switch Plates

This is where the game finally teaches you how to make the prince walk alone, which is vital for later puzzles.

First Command Over a Collapsing Platform

You’ll soon see a large collapsing platform with safe ground on the other side.

  • Stand with the prince on solid ground right before the platform.
  • Hold his hand and press the Command button.
  • Set the arrow so the end point is on the safe ground beyond the platform, not in mid-air.
  • Confirm; the prince will walk across and stop on the far side.
  • Now you can cross carefully by yourself.

This feels scary the first time, but as long as you place the end point correctly, he won’t fall.

Lift Controlled by Floor Plate

Next, you’ll find a lift with a floor plate separated from it.

  • In princess form, lead the prince onto the lift and let go.
  • Walk over to the floor plate and stand on it; the lift moves.
  • Once the lift reaches the upper ledge, step off the plate to stop it.
  • Transform into the wolf, jump onto the raised lift, then back to princess to hold his hand and continue.

Turtle-on-Collapsing-Platform Combo

There’s another collapsing platform with a turtle moving under/around it.

  • Hold the prince’s hand.
  • Jump together directly onto the turtle, then from the turtle to stable ground as it approaches.
  • If you linger or mis-time the jump, the platform will break and you’ll fall.

After a few more enemies (clear them in wolf form before bringing the prince up), you’ll face another collapsing platform where you must once again use the Command system to send the prince ahead after you’ve cleared enemies on the far side.

Two-Switch Lift Gate

You’ll then see a blocked path with a big lift and two separate floor plates.

  • Command the prince to walk onto the bottom plate.
  • Once he’s standing there, move to the upper plate and stand on it.
  • With both plates pressed, the lift lowers and the way opens.
  • Cross and then use another collapsing platform (breaking it with wolf weight) to descend.

Finish out the stage and you’ll move to the final forest segment.

Stage 4 – Monster Den Flower and Split Lifts

This last stage of Chapter 1 combines everything you’ve learned and hides the important flower behind a nasty monster den.

Dual Lifts and Parking the Prince

Ride an initial lift up and then step onto a second lift higher up. You’ll notice ledges on both left and right.

  • In princess form, guide the prince onto the right ledge and leave him there safely.
  • Transform into the wolf and jump from the lift to the left ledge.

Endless Monster Den and the Chapter Flower

To the left you’ll find a monster den that spawns endless enemies and, further left, a flower.

  • In wolf form, carve a short safe path to the left if needed, but don’t waste time trying to kill everything; they respawn.
  • Transform into the princess and pick up the flower. Once you’re holding it, you lose the ability to transform into the wolf.
  • With the flower in hand and only princess form available, carefully backtrack right:
    • Jump from the left ledge to the central lift
    • Then from the lift to the right ledge where the prince waits
  • Avoid touching enemies; you can’t fight while carrying the flower.

Give the flower to the prince. This is the key Chapter 1 flower and also a good practice run for later, more complex flower runs.

Final Double-Lift Puzzle and Exit

Move right to a section with two lifts and a collapsing platform with a plate beneath.

  • Stand with the prince on the first (left) lift.
  • Use the Command button to send him walking off the lift so he drops down onto the plate below.
  • His weight on the plate raises the first lift, giving you access to a higher ledge.
  • Jump up in wolf form to that ledge, then drop down on the far side to the second floor plate.
  • Standing on this second plate lowers the second lift, allowing you to reunite with the prince.

Once you’re back together, escort him forward to trigger the end-of-chapter scene and reach the witch’s domain, leading into Chapter 2.

Quick Chapter 1 Collectibles & Events Checklist

If you’re aiming to be thorough in the Forest of No Entry, here’s what to watch for:

  • Petals:
    • Early left alcove after first drop in Stage 1
    • Upper ledges past the key in Stage 1
    • Side paths off lifts in Stage 2 (left ledges)
    • Miscellaneous small side ledges throughout – explore left whenever the main path goes right
  • Flowers:
    • Calming flower after the ambush at the start of Stage 2 (story-related)
    • Monster-den flower in Stage 4, to the far left past the spawning monsters (core chapter flower)
  • Key interactions:
    • Lever to raise the first big lift in Stage 1
    • Wooden box with the key on the left, above the seesaw log in Stage 1
    • Switch that activates the dead lift in Stage 2 (above and to the left)
    • Two-plate lift puzzle in Stage 3
    • Dual-lift plus monster-den flower run in Stage 4

Common Pitfalls (and How to Fix Them)

  • Forgetting to park the prince before fighting
Always drop his hand and leave him on safe, flat ground before transforming into the wolf.
  • Breaking collapsing platforms too early
Don’t transform into the wolf while you’re still mid-run over a platform unless the puzzle specifically wants you to drop down.
  • Mis-aiming prince commands
Take an extra second to check where the arrow ends before confirming; if you’re not sure, aim a little shorter and re-command from there.
  • Trying to clear the endless monster den completely
Enemies from the den respawn; focus on creating a safe window to grab the flower and run, not total annihilation.
  • Dropping onto the second plate as the princess
In the final double-lift puzzle, drop down in wolf form so you have the jump height needed to move freely; if you fall as the princess in the wrong spot, you may need to redo the setup.

What to Expect After Chapter 1

Once you clear the Forest of No Entry, the game starts expecting you to chain these skills together without as much teaching. Chapter 2’s Mushroom Nursery, for example, stacks moving platforms, enemy timing, and prince commands more aggressively.

If you can get through Chapter 1 while:

  • Swapping forms on purpose, not in panic
  • Parking and commanding the prince confidently
  • Spotting side paths for petals and flowers

then you’re more than ready for what comes next. I struggled early on, but once these mechanics clicked, the rest of the game felt like a satisfying series of puzzles rather than a constant escort disaster. If I can get the prince through that forest in one piece, so can you.
