Players choosing a platform for virtual reality should still look to PC or PlayStation 5; the Switch 2 release is positioned around the same atmospheric flatscreen journey in handheld or docked play.
The Midnight Walk is fully playable without a headset. Its first-person story follows the Burnt One and Potboy, a lantern companion, through five intertwined tales of fire and darkness. Light is both a navigation tool and a survival system: it supports puzzles, reveals routes, and can help the player outsmart monsters during stealth sequences built around hiding and sneaking.
On PC, VR support is available through SteamVR, making this the practical option for players using a PC-connected headset. Meta Quest 3 users can access the PC VR version through PC-VR streaming, rather than through a confirmed standalone Quest edition. That distinction matters: the game runs from a capable PC, while the headset handles the VR display and tracking.

PS5 owners can play the conventional version on a television or use PlayStation VR2. VR is optional rather than a separate game mode or replacement purchase. The headset changes the presentation of the same core adventure, bringing its close-up clay models, darkness, directional audio, and physical-feeling interactions into a more immediate space.
Switch 2 has a March 26, 2026 release date and is priced at ¥3,400 in Japan, with other coverage listing $29.99. It preserves the game’s stop-motion-inspired art direction and fire-led exploration, but no equivalent Switch 2 VR implementation has been established.

For VR, choose PC with SteamVR or PS5 with PSVR2; for portable or docked flatscreen play, the Switch 2 version is the relevant release.
