Mixing secret-agent daydreams with mundane desktop drudgery, this indie narrative puzzle invites you to slip into the swivel chair of a federal investigator tasked with unraveling a cyber-conspiracy.
Developed solo by Bastien Giafferi under the Bureau 81 label, The Operator drops you into a faux operating system packed with emails, databases, image-analysis tools and crime-scene files. Think X-Files procedural meets Her Story’s meta-puzzle style. Instead of dialogue trees, you actively sift through clues, link evidence and unlock twists at your own pace.
The game’s Pégase-award-winning storytelling keeps the pace brisk across its roughly three-to-five-hour campaign. Each case builds logically on the last, delivering that sweet moment when you crack a stubborn puzzle. Yet its one-solution design and linear structure mean there’s little incentive to revisit once you’ve seen every twist.
