Witcher 3 Remastered Transmog: How to Unlock Reforge

FinalBoss5 min read

To unlock transmog in The Witcher 3 Remastered, finish two quests: Master Armorers for Yoana’s armor Reforge and Of Swords and Dumplings for Hattori’s weapon Reforge. Reforge lets Geralt keep the stats of his equipped gear while changing its appearance to any unlocked look.

Reforge sits inside each master craftsman’s usual shop or crafting screen under its own Reforge tab. Yoana handles armor appearances, and Éibhear Hattori handles weapon appearances. No other armorer or blacksmith offers the service.

Table of Contents (6)

Quick start: the two quests and where to find the Reforge tab

  • Complete Master Armorers at Crow’s Perch in Velen. After that, open Yoana’s normal armorer menu and select the Reforge tab for chest armor, gloves, trousers, and boots.
  • Complete Of Swords and Dumplings in Novigrad. After that, open Hattori’s normal blacksmith menu and select the Reforge tab for steel swords, silver swords, and ranged weapons.
  • If you do not see the tab, you are either at the wrong craftsman or have not finished that master-craftsman quest yet.

That is the whole unlock path. The longer walkthroughs below are only for getting each master online and understanding what Reforge does, what it does not touch, and how new appearances are added to the pool.

Unlock armor transmog through Master Armorers

Armor Reforge becomes available at Crow’s Perch in Velen after completing Master Armorers. Start by speaking to Fergus Graem, the dwarf armorer at Crow’s Perch, and ask him about mastercrafted armor.

  • Travel to Crow’s Perch in Velen.
  • Speak with Fergus Graem.
  • Select the dialogue about mastercrafted armor to begin Master Armorers.
  • Finish the quest, including the search for the lost blacksmith tools and its major encounters.
  • Return to Crow’s Perch once Yoana has become the master armorer.

Yoana is the only craftsman who can Reforge armor. Her Reforge tab changes the appearance of Geralt’s chest armor, gloves, trousers, and boots. If the tab is missing at Crow’s Perch, the Master Armorers questline is not finished.

Unlock weapon transmog through Of Swords and Dumplings

Weapon Reforge is tied to Of Swords and Dumplings, Hattori’s master blacksmith quest in Novigrad. Find Éibhear Hattori at his shop near the docks, northwest of Glory Gate. You can begin the quest by visiting Hattori directly or by asking blacksmiths about making a master sword.

  • Go to Novigrad.
  • Find Éibhear Hattori near the docks, northwest of Glory Gate.
  • Begin and complete Of Swords and Dumplings.
  • Return to Hattori after the quest to access his Reforge tab.

Hattori is the only master craftsman who can Reforge weapons. His service covers steel swords, silver swords, and ranged weapons. Completing Yoana’s quest does not unlock weapon transmog, and completing Hattori’s does not unlock armor transmog. The two services stay separate.

How to use Reforge

Once the correct master is unlocked, changing an item’s look happens at that craftsman’s usual shop screen rather than in Geralt’s inventory. In other words, if you are hunting through menus and not seeing it, you are probably in the wrong place.

  • Visit Yoana for armor or Hattori for weapons.
  • Open the craftsman’s menu.
  • Select the Reforge tab.
  • Choose the equipped item whose appearance you want to replace.
  • Select an unlocked appearance and confirm the change.

The common trap is checking another blacksmith or armorer and assuming Reforge is unavailable. Standard craftsmen never get the tab. Armor appearances always belong to Yoana’s service, while weapon appearances always belong to Hattori’s.

How to unlock more appearances

An appearance enters the Witcher 3 Remastered transmog pool when the relevant piece of equipment or its crafting diagram enters Geralt’s inventory. You do not need to keep that item equipped to use its appearance later.

That makes crafting diagrams especially useful if you care about fashion as much as stats. Finding a diagram for a sword or armor piece adds its visual design to the appropriate Reforge selection, even if that item is not part of Geralt’s current loadout.

What Reforge changes and what it keeps

Reforge changes appearance only. The equipped item keeps its original level, statistics, bonuses, damage, resistances, and other gameplay properties. A powerful late-game sword can use the visual model of an earlier sword whose appearance has already been unlocked, and the same logic applies to armor.

Applied Blood and Wine dyes also carry over when the equipment is reforged. That means the visual swap does not strip dye from a piece that was already colored before you used Reforge.

For complete access, finish both master-craftsman quests: Master Armorers for Yoana’s armor Reforge and Of Swords and Dumplings for Hattori’s weapon Reforge. From there, every equipment piece or crafting diagram you acquire expands the pool of looks available at the correct master.
