Total War: SHOGUN 2 Complete Edition: What’s Included and Who Should Buy

FinalBoss6 min read
Total War: SHOGUN 2 Complete Edition launches on PC on 14 October 2026 for ¥5,990 including tax. Japanese localization and high-resolution interface scaling give new and returning players practical reasons to consider the expanded package.

The two expansion campaigns make the Complete Edition worth choosing over the base game if you want to explore all three historical settings. Rise of the Samurai and Fall of the Samurai provide the biggest additions; Saints and Heroes supplies a smaller collection of specialist units. If you already own the campaigns and most DLC, the purchase decision rests primarily on Japanese localization and the updated interface.

PC release date, stores and price

Sega’s Total War: SHOGUN 2 Complete Edition releases on 14 October 2026 through Steam, Epic Games Store and Microsoft Store. Its Japanese price is ¥5,990 including tax.

The package combines Creative Assembly’s original 2011 strategy game with its expansion campaigns and previously released DLC, alongside Japanese voice and text localization, improved lighting and shadows, and a modernized interface with 1440p and 4K scaling.

What the three campaigns include

The campaigns share the combination of turn-based empire management and real-time battles, but their historical settings change the armies and technologies available. Choose which campaigns you actually want to play before treating the DLC count as the main measure of value.

CampaignSettingMain reason to play
Total War: SHOGUN 2Sengoku-era JapanThe original clan-conquest campaign, combining provincial management, diplomacy and samurai-era warfare.
Rise of the SamuraiA campaign beginning in 1175, focused on the Genpei WarAn earlier historical setting, roughly four centuries before the main game, with its own campaign and armies.
Fall of the SamuraiThe nineteenth-century conflict between supporters of the shogunate and Imperial loyalistsTraditional armies confronting firearms, artillery, railways and modern industrial powers.

Fall of the Samurai is the strongest draw if you want the largest change in battlefield tactics. Line infantry brings gun-armed formations into the early campaign, while weapons such as Parrott guns, Armstrong guns and Gatling guns expand the role of ranged firepower. Naval artillery adds another dimension to battles. Those differences give it a distinct appeal beyond another map to conquer.

Its short campaign begins in 1864 and requires victory conditions to be met by the end of 1870. Fall of the Samurai uses 24 turns per year, with six turns per season, so the “short” label still leaves substantial campaign management between battles. It describes a campaign format rather than a fixed number of playing hours.

Which faction and unit packs are bundled?

  • Ikko Ikki Clan Pack: additional faction content for the original game.
  • Otomo Clan Pack: another playable clan choice.
  • Hattori Clan Pack: additional clan content.
  • Sengoku Jidai Unit Pack: extra units for greater army-building variety.
  • Saints and Heroes Unit Pack: nine elite hero units with specialized battlefield roles.

The package also encompasses the other previously released DLC. The optional Blood Pack is subject to inclusion and activation under the platform’s content settings.

What Saints and Heroes adds

Saints and Heroes adds nine elite hero units designed to outperform ordinary troops in particular roles and strengthen nearby formations. Its value comes from experimenting with army composition and specialist battlefield capabilities.

It does not add a separate historical campaign. For someone buying SHOGUN 2 for the first time, the two expansion campaigns carry more weight than this unit pack. For an existing owner interested chiefly in hero units, compare the standalone pack with the Complete Edition rather than paying for campaigns and faction packs already in your library.

What Japanese localization changes

The Complete Edition adds Japanese voice acting and Japanese text localization, making it the series’ first release with that combination of Japanese-language support. English and Chinese voice options are also available.

This is a meaningful buying factor if you prefer to read campaign information and follow battle audio in Japanese. SHOGUN 2 requires frequent attention to diplomacy, unit information, technology development and provincial management; language accessibility affects those decisions throughout a campaign.

If you already play comfortably in an existing language, localization contributes less to the purchase’s value. In that case, weigh the missing campaigns and display improvements more heavily.

What 1440p and 4K support changes

The display updates include 1440p and 4K interface scaling, a modernized UI, and improved lighting and shadow rendering. For a strategy game built around reading panels and issuing orders, interface scaling is especially useful on a high-resolution monitor.

Judge this feature by readability: campaign information, unit panels and controls need to remain usable at your display’s resolution. The listed visual upgrades do not promise that every texture and effect has been rebuilt, and resolution support alone offers no guarantee of a particular frame rate.

Who should pay ¥5,990?

Your situationBest purchase decisionWhy
First purchase, with interest in multiple historical campaignsChoose the Complete Edition. The original game, both major expansions and the DLC give you the broadest content selection.
Only interested in the original Sengoku campaignCompare the base game’s price before buying. The extra campaigns offer less value if you do not intend to play them; Japanese support and interface scaling may still matter.
Already own SHOGUN 2 and most of its DLCBuy primarily for localization or display improvements.Much of the campaign and unit content duplicates what you already own.

Before repurchasing, check your library specifically for Rise of the Samurai, Fall of the Samurai and the faction and unit packs. If those are already covered, Japanese voice and text support plus the high-resolution interface need to justify the ¥5,990 price on their own.
