Undivine, the atmospheric metroidvania RPG from Brainium Games, is now available on Steam and Nintendo Switch, with PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One versions scheduled to launch on May 9, 2025. Players eager to test its shadowy depths can also dive into a free demo on all platforms.

For Brainium Games, a studio previously known for Lost Eidolons and a string of puzzle hits, Undivine marks a significant step into the metroidvania genre. While their past projects have built a reputation for polish and inventive mechanics, Undivine is their boldest narrative effort yet. “We wanted to create a world that feels oppressive yet rewarding to explore, where every choice and every secret matters,” said lead designer Lena Wu in a recent press statement. “Players will find familiar metroidvania elements here, but we’ve worked hard to add our own twist with the relic and talent systems.”

  • Available now on Steam and Switch; Xbox and PlayStation editions coming May 9, 2025
  • Non-linear, interconnected world packed with secrets, side quests, and lore
  • Innovative relic system unlocks new traversal and combat abilities
  • Flexible talents encourage unique builds for every player
  • Free demo lets you try before you buy

In Undivine, you play as “the traveler,” arriving in a village on the verge of collapse, its people threatened by a mysterious abyss. The game encourages exploration off the beaten path, with relics granting abilities like air dashes or map-altering powers that open up new routes and strategies. The freedom to chart your path is a clear response to genre staples—fans on social media have already praised the game’s world design and customization, with one early player noting, “Finally, a metroidvania that lets me break the rules instead of just following corridors.”

Undivine’s talent system is refreshingly freeform, letting you invest in areas like alchemy or demonology to tailor your build. As Wu puts it, “We didn’t want to force players into rigid roles. Whether you’re a completionist, a brawler, or a tactician, there’s a path forward.” There’s plenty to discover for those willing to dig deeper: over 30 collectibles, side quests, and hidden gear await the curious.

While critics have lauded the game’s moody visuals and flexible approach, some early demo feedback points to a steep difficulty curve, particularly for newcomers to the genre. The developers have addressed this with three adjustable difficulty modes, aiming to strike a balance between accessibility and challenge.

For Brainium Games, Undivine is more than a genre experiment; it’s a signal of their ambitions to step up as a serious creative force in indie action RPGs. With the demo available and a full release on all major platforms by May, the studio is betting that their world of abyssal secrets will find its share of devoted explorers.

TL;DR: Undivine is out now on Steam and Switch, with PlayStation and Xbox versions arriving May 9, 2025. Expect a moody, non-linear metroidvania with deep customization and a world full of secrets—just be ready for a challenge.
