Unlock Lady in Disney Dreamlight Valley (Full Quest Guide)

To unlock Lady in Disney Dreamlight Valley you open the Lady and the Tramp realm in the Dream Castle, work through the realm’s four-quest chain — Canine Courtship, The Jailbreak, Meatballs, then Critters and Compassion — craft the Cheese Key from five Giant Cheeses, free the critters in the pound, and follow the spaghetti maze back to the realm exit. Lady joins your valley the moment you leave the realm after that final step. Tramp arrives earlier, at the end of Meatballs, once you build and pay for Lady & Tramp’s House.

Two things this guide corrects, because they trip people up: the realm door does not cost a fixed 6,000 Dreamlight, and there is no set of eight buried key fragments anywhere in this questline. Details below.

Why the realm price is not what your guide says

Realm doors in Dreamlight Valley scale with how many realms you have already opened. That is why you will find guides confidently listing 13,000 Dreamlight while a friend swears theirs cost 4,000. Both can be right. The practical planning number: if you are deep into the game, budget up to 15,000 Dreamlight. If Lady and the Tramp is one of your first doors, it will be much cheaper.

Any guide quoting a single fixed figure — including older versions of this one, which said 6,000 — is describing one player’s save, not a rule.

Step 1 — Open the realm and run Canine Courtship

Head to the top floor of the Castle of Dreamlight, go to the far right of the row of doors, and pay the Dreamlight cost. You arrive on a sauce-splattered street outside Tony’s restaurant, and Canine Courtship starts automatically.

Play it straight through as prompted. It is the introduction to the realm’s layout — Tony’s, the alley behind it with the cooking and crafting stations, and the pound — and you will be running between those three points for the rest of the questline. Learn the route now and the later steps get much faster.

Step 2 — The Jailbreak (and the key that is actually one key)

The Jailbreak is where the escape from the pound plays out, and where the guide misinformation lives.

There is a single golden key, not a set of buried fragments. It sits out of reach in a tunnel under a wooden barrel, and you retrieve it by crafting an Improvised Grappling Hook from a rope and a coat hook, then using the hook to pull it down. If you have read that you need to dig up eight key pieces scattered around the realm, that mechanic does not exist in the current build and is not in any of the major walkthroughs.

This quest also gives you the Substitute Snout, a mask you will need again at the very end. Do not forget you have it — it is the single most common reason players get stuck in the spaghetti maze later.

Step 3 — Meatballs, and building the house (Tramp unlocks here)

Meatballs closes out the Tramp half of the realm story. When it finishes, you return to Dreamlight Valley, place Lady & Tramp’s House somewhere in your valley, and pay 20,000 Star Coins to complete construction.

Finishing the house unlocks Tramp as a villager. Lady is still in the realm at this point.

Step 4 — Critters and Compassion (the quest that unlocks Lady)

This is Lady’s own quest and the last thing between you and having her in your valley. It has six distinct beats.

4.1 Talk to Lady behind Tony’s

Re-enter the realm and go to the date area / back alley behind Tony’s restaurant. Speak to Lady to start the quest — she wants to free the critters stuck in the pound.

4.2 Solve the memory puzzle

Interact with the golden memory orb behind Tony’s. It works like a jigsaw: pieces you rotate and slot into place.

• Rotate each piece through all four orientations before deciding it does not fit — being off by a rotation is the usual reason a correct piece will not snap.
• Lock in the obvious big shapes first (edges, dog silhouettes, strong colour blocks), then fill the middle.

Show the completed memory to Lady when it resolves.

4.3 Photograph the lock

Go into the pound, stand facing the kennel door lock, and take a photo with your camera when prompted. This gives you the imprint the Cheese Key is modelled on.

4.4 Find five Giant Cheeses

You need five Giant Cheeses, left over from the meatball storm and scattered around the realm’s street and alleys. They are large, pale, and hard to miss once you are looking — the problem is coverage, not visibility.

Run a deliberate circuit rather than wandering: start at the crafting station near the realm entrance, sweep the recess and crates beside it, follow the alley behind Tony’s past the cooking station, come around the front of Tony’s and its side doors, then finish along the main street in front of the big central restaurant. Five sweeps of that loop and you will have all of them without backtracking.

4.5 Craft the Cheese Key

• Take the five Giant Cheeses to the cooking station behind Tony’s and cook them into Multiple Melted Cheeses.
• Talk to Lady again — she hands you Metal Parts.
• At the crafting station in the same alley, combine Multiple Melted Cheeses + Metal Parts into the Cheese Key.

4.6 Free the critters and run the spaghetti maze

• Head back to the pound through the sparkling portal and speak to Lady in the hallway.
• Use the Cheese Key on the locked kennel door to free the critters.
• Put on the Substitute Snout from The Jailbreak — it reveals a purple scent trail that is otherwise invisible.
• Follow the trail through the maze of spaghetti, smashing the short spaghetti barriers with your Royal Pickaxe to open the path.
• When you reach the alley with the realm entrance, step out and talk to Lady at the realm door.

Leave the realm and Lady is unlocked, moving into the house with Tramp.

Lady’s friendship quests

Once she is a villager, Lady runs the standard four-quest friendship chain: three quests at lower friendship levels, then “Portrait of a Lady” at friendship level 10. You must have cleared the first three before the level 10 quest becomes available.

Getting there is the usual grind — daily conversations, her starred daily gifts, and taking her along with a role assigned while you do your normal farming and mining runs. There is no shortcut, but doing it alongside chores you would do anyway costs you nothing extra.

Common ways to get stuck

• Hunting for buried key fragments. They do not exist. The key in The Jailbreak is a single golden key retrieved with the Improvised Grappling Hook.
• Missing the Substitute Snout. Without it the scent trail is invisible and the spaghetti maze looks like a dead end.
• Being short 20,000 Star Coins. Tramp is gated on the house, and the house is gated on coins. Bank them before you start the realm.
• Budgeting the wrong Dreamlight. Plan for up to 15,000, not a fixed 6,000 or 13,000.
• Running out of energy mid-realm. Bring high-energy food — the maze and cleanup sections burn stamina fast.

Tramp. He arrives when you finish Meatballs and pay for the house. Lady comes at the end of Critters and Compassion.

How many Giant Cheeses do I need?

Five. They cook into Multiple Melted Cheeses, which combine with Lady’s Metal Parts to make the Cheese Key.

Has this changed in the 2026 updates?

The quest chain, the cheese count, the Cheese Key recipe and the spaghetti maze are all unchanged. Gameloft has kept shipping content — A Hero’s Journey in June 2026, the paid Honeyglow Woods pack on July 8, and the free Pixel Perfect update due July 29 — but this realm has not been reworked. The only moving part is the scaling realm door price.
