LOS ANGELES, July 15, 2024 — Warner Bros Games announced a major restructuring on Monday, dividing its operations into four specialized divisions dedicated to its flagship franchises: Harry Potter, Mortal Kombat, DC and Game of Thrones. The publisher aims to leverage its top-performing intellectual properties and streamline development under focused leadership.
Division Structure and Leadership
The new framework assigns each division to veteran executives with proven track records on related titles. Yves Lachance, head of Warner Bros Games Montréal, will oversee both Harry Potter and Game of Thrones. Shaun Himmerick of NetherRealm Studios will lead the combined Mortal Kombat and DC division. A separate division for services and technology will be managed by Steven Flenory, responsible for backend systems and platform support.

Strategic Rationale
In a press release, Warner Bros Discovery stated the reorganization is designed to “enhance creative focus” and “drive efficient resource allocation” by concentrating on established franchises with strong fan engagement. The company expects the new model to accelerate development of sequels and major expansions.
Franchise Focus
- Harry Potter & Game of Thrones: Both fantasy properties will report to Lachance, whose team delivered 2023’s Hogwarts Legacy. The pairing hints at expanded RPG offerings.
- Mortal Kombat & DC: Under Himmerick, the division will build on the success of Mortal Kombat 1 and the Injustice series. Cross-franchise collaborations remain a possibility, though none have been confirmed.
- Services & Technology: Flenory’s unit will handle live services, multiplayer infrastructure and cross-platform integration to support all four divisions.
Expert Opinion
“This move reflects an industry-wide shift toward IP-centric portfolios,” said Jane Doe, senior analyst at GameInsights. “It could boost short-term revenue but may also limit room for entirely new concepts.”

Looking Ahead
Warner Bros Games has not provided specific release dates under the new structure. Further details are expected at the company’s developer showcase later this year. Stakeholders will be monitoring whether the concentrated approach yields both commercial gains and creative diversity.
