World of Warcraft: Midnight
The second of three announced expansions of the Worldsoul Saga. Introducing Housing! Before you put down roots in your own cozy corner of Azeroth later this y…
After spending my first evening in World of Warcraft: Midnight running circles around Windrunner Village, I finally figured out the trick to the triple-locked safebox in Eversong Woods. The box itself is easy to miss, and the game gives you almost no clear hint that a nearby torch is the key to everything.
This safebox is important for a few reasons:
If you know exactly where to stand, which torch to click, and where the keys sit, you can do the whole thing in under a minute. Without that knowledge, you can easily waste 20-30 minutes like I did, combing the village looking for “hidden” keys that literally don’t exist until you have the buff.
You don’t need any special progression to do this, but a bit of prep will make it smoother:
Nothing here is mechanically difficult; the real “puzzle” is understanding the torch mechanic and not wandering off without the buff.
The first thing I got wrong was assuming the safebox would be inside a building. It’s not.
The triple-locked safebox is in Windrunner Village, in the south of Eversong Woods. If you use coordinate addons, head to roughly (39, 76). With a more precise macro, you can use:
/way #2395 38.90 76.00 Triple-Locked Safebox
Look for a broken cart just off the road in the village. The safebox is tucked underneath or right next to the wreckage, low to the ground. It’s easy to ride past if you’re not actively looking for it.
Once you’ve found the box, don’t spam-click it yet. You can’t brute-force it. This is where the torch comes in.
The breakthrough for me was realizing that the unassuming torch next to the safebox isn’t just scenery—it’s the actual trigger for the puzzle.

Right next to the safebox, slightly to the side, there’s an interactable torch: community guides call it either a Purple Torch or a Burning Torch, but functionally it’s the same thing. When you interact with and equip this torch, you’ll gain a special buff that lasts about 15 minutes.
With this buff active:
The good news is that 15 minutes is far more than you need—the keys are packed very close to the safebox. If, for some reason, your buff runs out (or if you forgot to grab it before running off like I did a few times), just return to the torch and re-equip it to refresh the buff.
Once you see the buff icon, you’re ready to hunt the keys.
All three keys sit within a very small radius of the safebox, so this is more about knowing where to look than it is about travel time. Mounted, you can easily do a full loop in under a minute.
Start from the safebox and face west, into the heart of Windrunner Village.
The Battered Safebox Key is near a <strongwooden leading="" ramp="" second="" story<="" strong="" the="" to="" up=""> of one of the buildings, directly west of the box. It’s on the ground between the base of the ramp and the building’s entrance.
What helped me spot it:
Loot it, then turn slightly northeast for the next key.
From the Battered Key spot, angle northeast towards the inner curve of the village road. You’re aiming for a tree at the edge of the street and a distinctive Decrepit Ranger Construct nearby.

The Worn Safebox Key is:
In my runs, this key was the easiest to miss if I was moving too fast; the tree trunk can visually “hide” it from certain angles. If you don’t see it immediately, do a small circle around the tree and check from multiple sides.
The last key is almost in a straight line past the safebox.
From the Worn Key’s tree, ride back toward the center of the village, reorient yourself with the safebox position, then follow the road east, away from the broken cart. You’ll pass a hanging lantern along the road.
The Tarnished Safebox Key is:
Look for the pulsing effect near the base of the rock. Loot it, and you’re done with the key hunt.
Efficient loop summary: Safebox torch → Battered Key (west ramp) → Worn Key (northeast tree + construct) → Tarnished Key (east boulder) → back to safebox. Once you’ve done it once, it’s a 30–60 second circuit.
With all three keys in your bags, ride back to the broken cart at (39, 76) and interact with the triple-locked safebox again. This time, it will finally open.
Inside, you’ll receive:
If you fall in love with the lantern (I did), you’re not limited to just one. You can purchase additional Gemmed Eversong Lanterns from Sathren Azuredawn in Fairbreeze Village for 750 Voidlight Marl each. Voidlight Marl drops from pretty much all normal Midnight activities, so you’ll accumulate it passively as you play.

Most of the frustration I felt with this puzzle came from a few repeatable mistakes. Here’s how to avoid them.
Esc → Options → Graphics can also help./reload or relog, then re-equip the torch. Also double-check you haven’t already looted that key on that character. All the information here lines up with early community guides and what I’ve personally seen on live servers, but as always with new expansions, keep an eye on patch notes or community posts in case Blizzard adjusts anything about Midnight’s treasures.
With the triple-locked safebox done, you’ve checked off one of the nine treasures required for the Treasures of Eversong Woods achievement. That achievement is a key step towards earning the Sootpaw pet, so this little puzzle is more than just a one-off housing item.
The nice part is that this is one of the more confusing treasures due to the hidden buff mechanic. Once you’ve cleared it, most of the remaining Eversong treasures are more straightforward “go to coordinates, interact with object” affairs.
If you follow the route in this guide, you’ll never have to wander Windrunner Village aimlessly like I did that first night. Grab the torch, follow the short west–northeast–east loop for the keys, and enjoy your Gemmed Eversong Lantern and the Treasures of Eversong progress. If I can untangle it after wasting a chunk of time, you can absolutely do it cleanly on your first serious attempt.
