What to Capture Before Access Ends

Work in this order. If accounts are locked or the realm database is seized, the data you preserved in the first ten minutes is what you keep.

1. Character Sheet and Status

Open your character pane and screenshot every panel: name, race, class, level, specialization, item level, primary stats, professions, total gold, and current location. If you have multiple characters, create a folder for each and repeat the process. These shots are your baseline proof of ownership and progression.

2. Complete Gear and Build Documentation

Equip your main and off-spec sets. Capture screenshots of every gear slot, then mouse over each piece and screenshot the tooltips to record item names, enchants, gems, and set bonuses. Do not skip trinkets, ring enchants, or weapon chains-if you ever need to recreate this build elsewhere, those details matter more than item level alone.

3. Achievements and Raid Progression

Scroll through your achievements tab and capture your raid progression, especially any Siege of Orgrimmar clears, challenge-mode style records, and completion timestamps. Photograph your mount and pet collections, focusing on rare or event-exclusive drops. These milestones are the hardest to reconstruct from memory if the server database is wiped or seized.

4. Inventory, Bank, and Mailbox

Screenshot every bag tab, every bank tab, and your mailbox. If you have guild bank access, document those tabs too. Include currency windows and any special tokens. The goal is a visual inventory log that proves what you owned, not just a written list that could be questioned later.

5. Quest Log and Active Progression

Capture your quest log to show active storylines, dailies, and any unfinished Siege of Orgrimmar quest chains. Note your current reputation standings with key factions. This preserves context for where you were in the expansion cycle and what unlocks you had already earned.

Where to Store Your Archive

Save everything locally first. Create a root folder named after the server and date, then subfolders for each character. After that, mirror the folder to a cloud drive or an external hard drive. Avoid relying solely on social media albums or single-platform hosting that could vanish. If you are documenting evidence for any future dispute, keep an offline copy on a USB drive or local disk that you control directly.

How to Verify the Backup Is Complete

• Check that every screenshot is readable at full zoom. Blurred tooltips are useless.

• If the server is still live, log in once more and spot-check two random items against your archive to confirm accuracy.

Stay on the Safe Side

Do not download third-party server extraction tools, database scrapers, or client mods that promise to export your character. These can carry legal risk, malware, or account flags. Courts and hosts are concerned with server operators and distribution, not players taking photographs of their own screen, but automated extraction blurs that line in ways you do not want to test.

If the server website or launcher is still accessible, download any official client patches or extras you were promised, but do not redistribute them. Keep your documentation personal, offline, and organized. That archive is now the only proof of the progression you earned.
