The mount has only two service seats active at once, making its defining feature the ability to change the NPCs accompanying it rather than permanently locking owners into one arrangement.

The premium configuration adds an auctioneer for 1,500,000 gold and a transmogrifier for 500,000 gold. Buying both raises the investment to 7,000,000 gold. Owners can swap their available NPC functions through a character in Harandar after purchase, allowing the mount to shift between routine mail-and-repair use and more specialized auction house or appearance-management needs.

The real decision is convenience now versus luxury later

That distinction matters. The 5 million-gold version is the relevant buy for collectors and for players who regularly need repairs or mail access while questing, farming, or running group content. At that price, the mount is already doing real work. It is a mobile maintenance tool, not just a flashy fungus with an absurd invoice attached.

The extra 2 million is aimed at players who genuinely benefit from portable market access and transmog changes. If you spend a lot of time buying, listing, or flipping items, the auctioneer is the add-on that changes the math. If you mostly want a practical field mount, that extra spend is a luxury, not a requirement. The transmogrifier’s astral service room lasts 10 minutes and then goes on a 10-minute cooldown, which keeps it firmly in the convenience category rather than turning the mount into unrestricted wardrobe access.

If you want the mount, the urgent number is 5 million gold

The purchase window is the sharper pressure point: the Fungal Strider leaves sale at the end of the Midnight expansion cycle. Once bought, however, access to its interchangeable NPC options remains available indefinitely afterward. That makes the actual buy-vs-wait advice pretty clean.

If you already have 5,000,000 gold and want the mount, buy the base version before the window closes. That secures the limited item itself, which is the part with the deadline. If you are sitting below 7,000,000 gold, that does not automatically mean you should wait. Players who care mainly about travel efficiency, repairs, and mailbox access can stop at 5 million and get the core utility immediately. Players who specifically want field auction house access can treat 7 million as the long-term target and add the premium functions later.

So yes, the headline number can hit 7,000,000 gold. But for most players, the more important number is still 5,000,000. The Sporebearer Fungal Strider is only a full-blown mobile service hub if you want it to be. Otherwise, it is a limited-time convenience mount with a very expensive upgrade path attached.
