A Mythic+ rating that looked safely inside the top 1% is not a guaranteed reward claim anymore. Blizzard’s review comes after Midnight Season 1 ended on August 11, with the new percentile tier — including Umbral Champion and its exclusive mount — still unawarded as of the August 31 announcement.
The audit targets rankings influenced by paid carry services. Game director Ion Hazzikostas called it a “thorough scrub,” aimed at removing illegitimate placements before Blizzard confirms the final Season 1 distribution. The company has not disclosed its detection criteria, how many characters could be removed, or when the corrected results will arrive. It also has not detailed the additional anti-boost changes planned after this review.
Midnight’s high-end Mythic+ reward is determined by a flat percentage of eligible players, not a permanent fixed score. That makes the cutoff dynamic: when ineligible rankings are removed, legitimate players below the apparent line can move into the top 1%. One European cutoff snapshot placed the threshold at 3,926.49 rating, but that figure was regional and never a universal target.

Blizzard intends to keep the popular 1% rewards, so this is enforcement around the system rather than its removal. The longer-term direction is more complicated: the team is working on specialization-specific cutoffs, though Hazzikostas said they will not be ready for Season 2. That would address a ladder where certain compositions can dominate the highest key levels, but Blizzard has not decided whether the future version will retain the “top 1%” name.
The action also fits a broader Midnight approach: Blizzard is easing some “vault filler” Mythic+ keys to improve participation and reduce tank and healer pressure, while preserving strict standards for elite seasonal rewards. Season 1 end-of-season dungeon participation stood at 12.3%, below The War Within’s 16.8%, making the integrity of the remaining competitive climb particularly important.

For players, the practical move is simple: rely on legitimate timed runs, do not treat a current leaderboard spot as final, and wait for Blizzard’s completed review before judging Season 1 top-1% eligibility.
