WoW’s top 1% Mythic+ reward is on hold while Blizzard scrubs boosted runs

As of September 2, Blizzard still had not granted Midnight Season 1’s top-1% Mythic+ rewards. That means Umbral Champion: Midnight Season One and the associated Umbral Ashes flying mount are on hold while Blizzard reviews paid boosting and commercial carries, not canceled outright.

In Europe, the final Season 1 top-1% Mythic+ cutoff was 4,008 rating at the season’s end, which shows why even a limited removal of ineligible characters can materially change the final bracket. This is not a fixed-score reward: Umbral Champion: Midnight Season One is awarded by regional percentile, so every disqualification can move players near the line into eligibility.

Blizzard has paused distribution while it reviews rankings for paid boosting and commercial carries. Game director Ion Hazzikostas said the team is conducting a “thorough scrub” of illegitimate entries and will provide its approach and final results later. Because the achievement and mount had not been granted as of September 2, Blizzard can still remove characters from the eligible list before payout rather than revoke a completed seasonal award after the fact.

The ladder is regional, and that makes the audit more disruptive near the cutoff

The audit is narrowly consequential for the highest end of Mythic+, but it affects more than the accounts under review. The 1% threshold differs across North America, Europe, Korea, Taiwan, China, and Oceania, and it moved throughout the season as rating and participation changed. Midnight Season 1 ended on August 11, but for players near the line, the practical outcome still depends on Blizzard’s post-season cleanup.

A player who finished just below the initial regional line could be elevated if ranked characters are removed; a player who regarded a provisional standing as secure had no guarantee until the ladder was finalized. That is the part worth underlining: top-1% Mythic+ rewards are percentile-based, so they are not locked by hitting one universal score and calling it a day.

• Check your final standing in your own region. Compare your character’s final Mythic+ rating against your region-specific season-end cutoff or leaderboard page. Do not use another region’s number, and do not treat old estimate posts as final.

• If rewards are still missing after distribution begins, document first, then contact support. If Blizzard announces rewards have gone out and your character still lacks Umbral Champion or Umbral Ashes, note your region, character, and final rating, then use Blizzard’s normal support route. There is no public appeal or contest window announced right now, so assume the official update comes first.

That last point matters because there is a big difference between not yet awarded and wrongfully removed after payout. In the current situation, the main risk is being taken off the eligible list before rewards are issued. For players on the bubble, patience is annoying, but it is still better than having the bracket paid out and then clawed back.

What Blizzard still hasn’t explained

Blizzard has not disclosed its detection criteria, the number of planned removals, a completion date, or a public appeal window. It also has not defined publicly whether the review separates real-money transactions from every gold-funded carry. Players should avoid treating any third-party-assisted rating gain as safely outside the review’s scope.

That uncertainty is exactly why the scrub matters beyond the players who knowingly bought help. Even if the enforcement target is commercial boosting, everyone clustered around the bracket line is waiting on the same unresolved questions: how many characters are removed, which regions shift the most, and how far the final 1% line moves after the cleanup.

Blizzard is making Mythic+ friendlier in some places and stricter in one very specific one

The broader Season 1 changes point in two directions. Blizzard is easing some weekly Vault-filler keys and adding Lair raid instances to reduce high-end access friction, while tightening enforcement around a percentile reward meant to recognize legitimate competitive performance. That mix is not contradictory so much as selective: lower some of the routine pain, then clamp down hard where leaderboard prestige is supposed to mean something.

For top-end Mythic+ players, the practical next step is simple even if the wait is not. Check your final regional result, monitor Blizzard’s promised explanation of the review and its final outcome, and do not assume Umbral Champion or Umbral Ashes is locked until the audit is finished. Right now the reward is on hold, the bracket can still move, and the last few spots remain the most fragile place on the entire ladder.
