Xbox Series X|S Prices Soar in UK and Europe Ahead of GTA VI

The 1TB Xbox Series S has taken the sharpest proportional hit: it now costs 50% more in mainland Europe, rising from €399.99 to €599.99. That turns what was once the straightforward storage upgrade into a far tougher value call, especially for players considering a console mainly for Grand Theft Auto VI.

Microsoft’s new regional pricing took effect on August 1. In the UK, the 512GB Series S rose from £299.99 to £429.99, while the 1TB version jumped from £349.99 to £519.99. The Series X Digital now costs £619.99, up £170, and the 1TB disc-drive Series X reaches £669.99 after the same £170 increase.

The percentage increases are most punishing on Series S: about 43.3% for the UK 512GB model and 48.6% for the 1TB version. In Europe, those increases are roughly 42.9% and 50%. Series X increases are lower proportionally, but its disc model is now a £669.99/€799.99 purchase.

Storage is the key distinction. The 512GB Series S can work for a small installed library, but frequent uninstalling becomes likely with modern AAA game sizes. The 1TB Series S costs £90 more in the UK and €100 more in Europe; that premium is worth paying only if the added internal space prevents a later storage-expansion purchase. The Series X disc model remains the flexible choice for physical-game buyers, resale, borrowing and UHD Blu-ray, while digital-only buyers should scrutinize whether its lower price is enough compensation for losing that drive.

Before buying, compare the precise storage capacity, disc-drive status and included game or accessory bundle against these new baselines. A retailer “sale” above the old MSRP is not a bargain unless its extras have real value; GTA VI-focused buyers may be better served by waiting for a genuine bundle or discount.
