After spending an entire weekend sweeping the Lagoon Strata in Donkey Kong Bananza, I realized just how easy it is to miss Banandium Crystals that are tucked behind fake walls, hidden portals, and endgame-only challenges. I went from thinking I was “almost done” to discovering I’d missed over a dozen crystals in spots the game barely hints at.

This guide walks you through every Banandium Crystal in the Lagoon Strata (Strate du Lagon), including the sub-layers -101 and -102, in the same order they appear in the in-game list. I played on Nintendo Switch with a Pro Controller, so I’ll reference default buttons like R for the charged punch/ground slam. Adjust to your own setup if needed.

Why the Lagoon Banandium Crystals Matter

In Donkey Kong Bananza, Banandium Crystals (the golden “bananas”) aren’t just collectible fluff. Cashing them in gives you skill points to upgrade DK and his Bananza transformations. In the Lagoon Strata specifically:

  • The upgrades you unlock here make later combat portals much easier.
  • Some endgame challenges outright require that you have all Bananza Kong abilities unlocked.
  • Finishing the Lagoon sets you up nicely for the harder strata above and below.

The Lagoon Strata is split into three maps:

  • Strate du Lagon – 25 Crystals (24 before credits, 1 post-game)
  • Strate du Lagon -101 – 25 Crystals (15 before credits, 10 endgame “Repetition” challenges)
  • Strate du Lagon -102 – 6 Crystals (5 before credits, 1 endgame in the boss arena)

Before you start hunting, make sure you’re comfortable with:

  • Using charged punches (hold R) to break armor and trigger mines.
  • Doing a plunge/ground slam from the air (jump, then R) to hit floor switches and fragile blocks.
  • Rolling enemies and projectiles to reposition them.
  • Recognizing fake walls (dark stone or suspicious concrete often hides caves).

Strate du Lagon – Main Lagoon Layer (Crystals #01–#25)

Before the endgame, there are 24 Banandium Crystals here, plus one more you can only buy after the credits. This is where the game starts really hiding collectibles behind mechanics it’s only hinted at before.

#01 – First Crocoroid Defeated!
You get this trio of crystals automatically as you arrive in the Lagoon Layer after beating the first Crocoroid. You literally can’t miss it, so just move on.

#02 – Cave Near the Cape
Right after #01, dig into the ground where the path widens near the cape. You’ll drop into a hidden cave with a Banandium Crystal stuck in the floor. Don’t make my mistake of walking past this because you’re rushing to the teleporter.

#03 – Lagoon Statistics
A bit further along, by the wrecked boat carcass, you’ll find a Fracton NPC. He only rewards you once you’ve destroyed 5,000 m³ of water. If you don’t have enough yet, come back later; he’ll track your total. Talk to him after reaching the quota to get the crystal.

#04 – Swimming Banana
After the first teleporter “Berge du réservoir”, dig into the rock wall nearby. There’s a hidden cave with a pool in the center and the crystal floating above it. Jump in and grab it.

#05 – Chrono-Smash: Behind the Wall
This is the first place I kept failing the timer. Hit the triangle mechanism to start a timed “Chrono-casse” challenge, then quickly either:

  • Climb around to reach the weak stone block, or
  • Smash straight through the rock if you’re strong enough.

Destroy the target block before time runs out and the crystal appears. The key is to plan your route before hitting the switch.

#06 – Combat: Stone and Grass Trio
Enter the nearby combat portal and defeat the three enemies inside. There’s nothing fancy to it: just use charged punches to break any armor and clean them up.

#07 – Hideout Behind the Concrete
Past the spinning triple stone walls mechanism, climb on the right-hand wall and break the cracked rock there. It hides a small room with the crystal. I ran past this twice because I assumed the mechanism was the only puzzle in the area.

#08 – Combat: Two-Faced Bridges
Use the portal marked on your map and clear all enemies on the flipping bridges. Watch your footing when the bridges rotate; stay mobile and avoid getting greedy with combos. When the arena is clear, you get the crystal.

#09 – Under the Shattered Floor
At the marked spot, hang from the ceiling above a fragile stone block. Lure the nearby enemy so that it drops onto the block and breaks it. Once the floor is gone, drop into the room below for the crystal.

#10 – Cranky’s Rant – Lagoon
On a small islet, Cranky Kong is waiting. You can reach him by throwing chunks of stone at the silver blocks to build a path. Talk to him and listen to his full tirade; when he’s done grumbling, he rewards you with a crystal. If you cut it short and leave, you get nothing.

#11 – Mouthful
This one is tucked behind a black wall at the indicated spot. Punch the suspicious wall to reveal a hidden room. I wasted a lot of time here because I didn’t think black walls were breakable yet-if a wall looks “too clean,” try smashing it.

Ceiling Route Challenge – Crystals #12, #13, #14

All three of these come from a single portal-based challenge where you traverse along the ceiling. Once inside:

#12 – Break on the Ceiling Route
This one is simply on the main path of the ceiling route. You can’t really miss it unless you fall repeatedly.

#13 – Hidden on the Ceiling Route
Near the end of the course, while still hanging from the ceiling, move left instead of following the obvious exit. Break the stone walls that slide toward you to progress. Once you drop to the floor, punch another wall to reveal a hidden room with the crystal.

#14 – End of the Ceiling Route
At the very end of the challenge, another crystal waits right on the main route. Grab it before leaving the portal.

Mid-Lagoon Secrets – Crystals #15–#24

#15 – Path by the Lake
At the marked spot near the lake, destroy the cracked wall to reveal a short side room hiding the crystal.

#16 – Combat: Swarms in the Pillars
Enter the portal and deal with the Boulpoïds. They camouflage as rocks on the arena. Roll into them to strip the disguise, then finish with punches. When all are defeated, you earn the crystal.

#17 – Following the Voided Terrain
Follow the line of Voïd (the glowing trail on the ground) until you find a mechanism. Destroy it to free the trapped crystal.

#18 – Banana Fishing
Break the wall at the indicated point, then go right toward the water. You’ll see the crystal under the surface. Jump in and perform three plunge attacks (jump then R) to dive deep enough to hit and shatter it.

#19 – Waterfall Snack
Hit the blue balloon to make the crystal rise. Quickly move to where it appears and break it before it sinks or disappears. Timing is tight, so position yourself before triggering the balloon.

#20 – Inside the Pipe
Climb onto the long green pipe and enter through an opening partway along it (the location matches the in-game map icon). Inside is a straightforward crystal pickup.

#21 – Chrono-Smash: On the Pipes
Still on the green pipe, hit the triangle mechanism to start a timed break challenge. Destroy all the blocks before the timer expires, paying attention to which direction the barrels launch you. I kept failing this by letting barrels throw me backwards-memorize the safe sequence.

#22 – Combat: On the Unstable Disc
Near the waterfall, behind a destructible wall, there’s a hidden portal. Inside, you fight Guepoïd enemies while standing on a tilting disc. Use the disc’s tilt to roll their own projectiles back at them. Once all are down, you get the crystal.

#23 – Past the Aerial Platforms
Throw materials into the silver cubes to create platforms in the air. Chain these new platforms to reach the crystal easily. The trap here is overcomplicating it-build only what you need, don’t spam throws.

#24 – Explosive Treasure Hunt
Trigger the mechanism with a plunge attack, then circle around or throw a rock at the mines to clear a path to the crystal. Either route works; just don’t rush the explosives or you’ll knock yourself off the platform.

#25 – Token Trade – Lagoon (Post-Game)
After beating the game, a Fracton appears near the Lagoon shops. Pay him (with coins/rings from your run) and he’ll hand over the final Lagoon crystal. This is the last one I needed for 100% on this layer.

Strate du Lagon -101 – Fishermen’s Hamlet & Repetition (Crystals #26–#50)

This sub-layer hides 15 crystals in the normal story, plus 10 more in an endgame combat gauntlet run by the village elder.

#26 – Entrance to Fishermen’s Hamlet
As you enter the hamlet, three crystals are right in front of you. They’re unmissable—just walk forward and collect them.

#27 – Chrono-Smash: The Wall in the Air
Hit the triangle mechanism, then throw an explosive rock at the wall floating in mid-air before the timer ends to spawn the crystal.

#28 – Ceiling of the Ground
Dive into the water below the platform shown on your map. The crystal is beneath you—swim down and grab it.

Thorny Path Challenge – Crystals #29–#31

These three come from a thorn-path portal where you deal with ronces (thorn walls) and explosive rocks.

#29 – On the Thorny Path
On the main route, pick up a rock and attack with it to break through the thorns. The first crystal is right on the path, easy to reach.

#30 – In the Thorn Hideout
On the conveyor belt carrying explosive rocks, focus on the left-side thorns halfway along. One wall hides a secret alcove containing the crystal. It’s easy to miss if you just keep moving forward.

#31 – Through the Thorn Walls
No hints here: just keep pushing through until the very end of the route. The crystal is at the farthest point of the path.

#32 – Fisher’s Treasure
Under a wooden pier in the hamlet is a hidden underground room. Drop down and you’ll find a crystal buried in the floor.

#33 – Combat: Concrete Walls
In this combat portal, use explosive rocks to shatter enemy armor first, then punch them. Once all are down, you’re rewarded with the crystal.

#34 – Ceiling Crossing
At the location marked on your map, the crystal is clearly visible on the ceiling route. Use ceiling grips to move across and claim it.

#35 – In the Overgrown Grass
Directly below #34, you can hang from the ceiling. Follow the route, punching obstacles as you go to reach the crystal tucked away at the end.

#36 – Welcome to the Suspended Road!
These crystals greet you as soon as you arrive on the suspended road. To get there, drop through a hole from the Strate 600 just above. Again, they’re right on the path once you land.

#37 – Concrete Wall on the Moving Floor
Use explosive material dropped by the caterpillar-like enemy. Pick it up and destroy the left-hand concrete wall to reach a crystal on a moving platform.

#38 – Edges of the Hamlet
Return to Strate 600 and head toward the indicated hole that leads to the “confines” of the hamlet. There’s a ceiling-grab course: complete it to reach this crystal.

#39 – At the Elder Kong’s Courtyard
This crystal is right before the elder; impossible to miss on your way in.

#40 – Treasure at the Cargo’s Stern
Go around the cargo ship behind the elder and follow the path all the way to the back. The crystal waits at the very end.

Elder’s “Repetition” Endgame Gauntlet – Crystals #41–#50

Once you’ve collected at least 300 bananas and beaten the game, talk to the elder to unlock his “Repetition” challenge. You must have every Bananza Kong ability unlocked to reasonably clear this. This is where the game really tests if you understand its combat and physics.

#41 – First Fishing Basin Cleared
Defeat all enemies, using charged punches and explosive materials to break black-spike armor. Clear the basin to earn the crystal.

#42 – Gather to Hit Harder!
After #41, break the wall to the left to reveal a hidden challenge. Hit the blue balloon to line enemies up, then strike when they’re all in a row to finish them in one big hit and spawn the crystal.

#43 – Second Fishing Basin Cleared
Charge your fist to activate mines and move quickly before the lava returns. Lure enemies toward already-triggered mines to destroy them. Repeat in the next room with a bigger crowd to secure the crystal.

#44 – Lift to Hit Harder!
Again, head left from the basin’s reward area to find a secret path. Drop a stone to lower a platform, then use a ground slam (R) to raise it back. In the second section, stay airborne so enemies knock into each other and self-destruct. Clear it to get the crystal.

#45 – Third Fishing Basin Cleared
Use charged punches to break platforms and drop bouncing monkeys into hazards. In the next room, pay attention as materials swap between thorns and concrete; time your hits so you’re always breaking the correct barrier.

#46 – Wall to Hit Harder!
Another secret route to the left. Here, manipulate enemy walls so they collapse onto the jumping monkeys. Use their own bulk as a weapon. Clear the room to earn the crystal.

#47 – Fourth Fishing Basin Cleared
Use rolling ball enemies to take out turret-shaped monsters. Don’t rush: line up each shot so the ball hits multiple targets when possible.

#48 – Propel to Hit Harder!
This was the trickiest for me. From the basin, go left once more to a hidden challenge. Turrets sit high above you, out of reach of simple explosions. Lure explosive enemies so that when one detonates, it propels another upward into the turret. Think of it like setting up a chain reaction slingshot.

#49 – Bounce to Hit Harder!
In the final hidden side room (again, left), you’ll need to bash cannonballs in the right direction so they arc up and land in the thorns beneath enemies. It can take a few tries to learn the angles; be patient and adjust your timing until they fall into the abyss.

#50 – Fifth Fishing Basin Cleared
The last section is like a bowling finale. Knock incoming projectiles back into enemy lines, then repeat the pattern for a final, larger wave. Once you clear it, you’re done with the elder’s Repetition and get crystal #50.

Strate du Lagon -102 – Chimpanzee Trench & Boss Zone (Crystals #51–#56)

This smaller layer has a straightforward set of crystals, plus one last endgame puzzle back in the boss arena.

#51 – Arrival at Chimpanzee Trench
As soon as you enter Strate -102, the crystals are right in front of you on the path. Grab them and move on.

#52 – Destroy and Burst
This portal is reserved for Bananza Kong. Inside, you have to pop five balloons:

  • One right at the entrance,
  • Three carried by enemies,
  • One embedded in the floor of the rotating plate.

Pop all five to spawn the crystal.

#53 – On the Concrete Roof
Climb the walls or pillars to reach the concrete ceiling above you. Break it open from below to climb onto the roof and collect the crystal.

#54 – Hanging from the Ceiling
In the back-right of the same room, a crystal hangs from the ceiling. Use ceiling grips or similar traversal to swing over and grab it.

#55 – Stranded Treasure
Facing the portal from #52, turn around and break the wall behind you. There’s a short hidden passage leading to this crystal.

#56 – Hide-and-Seek in the Lagoon (Endgame)
After finishing the game, return to the Lagoon boss arena. Four Fractons are hidden around the area. Find and interact with all four of them, and they’ll reward you with the final Banandium Crystal for the Lagoon Strata. This was my true “100% complete” moment for the whole zone.

Finishing the Lagoon Strata (What to Expect Next)

Once you’ve grabbed all 56 Banandium Crystals across the Lagoon, -101, and -102:

  • You’ll have a big chunk of the skill tree filled out for DK and Bananza Kong.
  • Combat portals in later strata become much more manageable.
  • You won’t have to backtrack through these watery mazes again during endgame.

If any step above feels rough, especially the elder’s Repetition challenges, don’t hesitate to come back after a few more upgrades or practice runs. The Lagoon Strata is where Donkey Kong Bananza really starts demanding precision, but once you’ve cleared it, the rest of the collectible hunt feels far less intimidating.
