If you are stuck on Bellwright’s Mixing Flask objective, you are not searching for an item — you are running an errand. Track the Mixology side quest, leave Padstow, travel to Blackridgepool, and speak to the merchant Marlin Fulke. The flask is not a Padstow pickup, a loot drop, or a crafting recipe, so searching nearby settlements and containers just burns time.
The Mixing Flask is a quest item tied to the Mixology side quest, not freeform world loot. That distinction is the whole problem: if you treat it like gear, you sweep Padstow’s containers and crafting menus and find nothing. It has no combat stats and no standalone utility worth chasing — its only job is to advance Mixology, which pays out 250 Renown on completion. In early and mid game, that Renown is the reason to bother.
The quest comes from Alex, the herbalist in Padstow. Older write-ups list the giver as “unknown” because the wiki left the name blank, but the in-game dialogue settles it: when you reach Blackridgepool, Marlin Fulke tells you “Tell Alex this one’s on the house” — confirming Alex started the chain. Grab the quest, then open your Journal and set Mixology as the active tracked quest before you leave town.
Bellwright’s map is large, and an untracked objective turns a short delivery into a long sweep across roads and villages. Follow the quest marker south toward Blackridgepool and treat the trip like a field excursion, not a town handoff. The road runs through bandit territory, so the friction is the journey itself, not finding the NPC at the end.

In Blackridgepool, find the merchant Marlin Fulke. Talking to him is the interaction that hands over the Mixing Flask and advances the quest — if you reach the settlement and the objective has not cleared, you have not finished his dialogue yet. This is the step worth checking against your journal: with Mixology active and the right NPC in front of you, the flask is the payoff.

During the chain you carry a secret “spice” item, and Marlin Fulke will offer you 300 gold for it. The gold is a trap: selling the spice costs you your relationship and standing with the quest line, so the 250 Renown completion is the better deal. Hand the spice in as the quest intends and keep the Renown.

Ultimate Guide Strategy Guide + Weekly Pro Tips
The flask gets more questions than its function deserves, and the reasons are consistent:
Journal and confirm Mixology is the active tracked quest — if there is no marker, it is not selected. If you are smoothing out other early-game shortages on the same trip, it is worth lining up your Padstow gathering runs — see our guides on where to find garlic on the Padstow lake route and how to get peat in the Blackridgepool swamp, since both overlap with this journey. If the flask is part of a wider crafting jam, our guide to fixing thatch, cordage, and flask bottlenecks covers the knock-on shortages.
Stop searching Padstow. Pick up Mixology from Alex, track it, then travel to Blackridgepool with food, bandages, and backup. Speak to Marlin Fulke, hand in the spice instead of selling it for 300 gold, and collect your 250 Renown. The flask is gated by distance and discipline, not puzzle-solving — follow the marker and you clear it.
