Elden Ring: Sorceress Sellen Questline Guide

The One-stop Shop For Completing Sellen’s Mind-numbing Errands

Among the endless intriguing NPCs Elden Ring has to offer, Sorceress Sellen’s questline is an absolute joy to play through. The journey is a blast from start to finish and a rewarding one at that. You get to travel across many different regions, fight unique bosses, and learn some of the best spells Elden Ring has to offer.

Completing Sellen’s quests do not unlock any secret ending like Ranni’s questline, but it does come with its own perks — the chance to obtain overpowered sorceries.

In any case, Sellen’s chores aren’t as straightforward as go-fetch-quests in other games. Without a proper Elden Ring Sellen questline guide, you’ll be scratching the back of your head the whole way. Fortunately for you, I’ve concocted the ultimate path to beating her tasks quickly, so read on ahead.

Elden Ring Sorceress Sellen Quest Walkthrough

Elden Ring: Sorceress Sellen Questline

First things first, you need to find Sellen in order to start her questline. Directly east of the Agheel Lake in Limgrave lie the Waypoint Ruins. Upon reaching the area, you’ll see a set of stairs leading down to an underground cellar.

Defeat the Mad Pumpkin Head boss inside, and open the door he was guarding to greet Sorceress Sellen who is standing deep in thought.

Interact with her and she’ll introduce herself. After the pleasantries are over with, accept the option to become her apprentice, and behold, you’ve officially begun the main quest.

Oh, and by the way, you’ll also be able to purchase a truckload of sorceries as you progress her storyline.

Track Down Primeval Sorcerer Azur

The conversation with Sellen ends on an unclear note, and she doesn’t tell you what to do from here on out. You actually need to have a stroke of dumb luck to continue the quest, which is totally absurd, but this is Elden Ring after all.

Your hidden objective is to find Primeval Sorcerer Azur at Mt. Gelmir. Getting there is a pain so follow these simple directions.

Go to the Wyndham Ruins which are located in the west of the Altus Plateau. On the left side of the Wyndham Ruins, there is a river bed where you can discover the Seethewater River Site of Grace. You basically have to follow the river and circle around the entire mountain.

It’s a very linear path so you won’t get lost, but on the other hand, it is dangerous, long, and you’ll encounter a number of bosses.

If you keep following the river, you’ll run into the Magma Wyvern boss. A little ahead of it is the Craftsman’s Shack Site of Grace, and just beyond that is the Hermit Village.

Sorcerer Azur will be sitting right at the end of the village. Interact with him and he’ll reward you with the Comet Azur sorcery.

Now you can fast travel back to Sellen and a new dialog will play. She spills the beans about her using forbidden sorceries but then requests you to search for her missing mentor, Master Lusat.

After handing you the Sealbreaker key, she’ll point you in the direction of the Sellia Hideaway in Caelid where Master Lusat is.

Find Master Lusat In The Sellia Hideaway

Sellen actually only hints at Master Lusat being somewhere near “Sellia, Town of Sorcery” in Caelid, and leaves the rest up to you to figure out.

The exact location of Master Lusat is the Sellia Hideaway dungeon which is a hidden area in eastern Caelid.

Sellia hideaway location

There are two ways of reaching the area where the Sellia Hideaway is. The first is by clearing the Sellia, Town of Sorcery puzzle by progressing Millicent’s questline, and then going north of the Church of the Plague.

The other, more simpler method, is by simply jumping down on a Spirit Spring south of Fort Faroth.

Inside the area, find the Church of the Plague. Once you’re in the Church of the Plague, head northeast and you’ll see a bunch of tombstones together.

Go towards the cliff wall beyond the last tombstone and attack it to reveal a hidden area, that’s the Sellia Hideaway. There are a couple of more illusory walls ahead, so simply keep moving forward and descend the dungeon.

You’ll eventually run into a magic barrier that can be opened with the Sealbreaker key. Once that’s open, inside the room you can find and interact with Master Lusat.

Beat Starscourge Radahn At Redmane Castle

Fast travel back to Sellen after the entertaining chat with Lusat and exhaust her dialog. Sellen rewards you but the next part of her questline remains locked until you beat Starscourge at Redmane Castle.

After beating General Radahn, talk to Witch-hunter Jerren who’ll be sitting in the room north of the Redmane Castle Plaza Site of Grace.

Meet Sellen For The First Time, For The Second Time

Fast travel back to Sellen at the Waypoint Ruins and she’ll reveal that her real body is in the Witchbane Ruins. The Witchbane Ruins are located directly south of the Fourth Church of Marika which is situated at the westernmost part of the Weeping Peninsula

Fourth church of marika location

Enter the cellar in the Witchbane Ruins and you’ll find a shackled Sellen who will give you her life’s essence, Sellen’s Primal Glintstone.

Sellen real body

Upon reloading the area, you’ll see Jerren has killed Sellen claiming she was a mass murderer, but he also says he has a feeling she’s still alive — *chuckles* I’m in danger.

Revive Sellen At The Three Sisters

Now comes the part where we find Sellen a new body and put her essence in it. To do this you’ll have to head on to the Three Sisters, that’s the area past the Caria Manor in northwest Liurna.

When you reach Ranni’s Rise at the Three Sisters, stand at its entrance and look towards the open world, and head to the ruins that lie in front of you to the left.

Ranni's rise location

In the ruins, there is an illusory wall hiding a basement, so jump on or hit the floor until a path opens up. Head down to Seluvis’ secret basement and at its end, there’s another illusory wall past which a Sellen lookalike doll is present.

Place Sellen’s soul inside the doll and she’ll come back to life. You’ll be able to talk to Sellen once more. I recommend buying any and all spells she has available because depending on the choice you make in the final step, you may not have the opportunity to buy them again until later.

Pick A Side, Pick A Fight

The final stretch of Sellen’s questline starts here. Sellen won’t move from this location until you defeat Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon who can be found within the Academy of Raya Lucaria Legacy Dungeon in Liurna of the Lakes.

Rennala elden ring

You can gain access to Raya Lucaria by retrieving the Academy Glintstone Key which the Glintstone Dragon Smarag is protecting. Smarag spawns directly west of Raya Lucaria or north of the Temple Quarter Site of Grace in the open-world, so either beat him and take the key or steal it right from underneath his nose.

Once that’s done, progress through the Raya Lucaria Legacy Dungeon until you encounter Rennala in the Grand Library and beat her.

Open up the map screen and fast-travel to the Raya Lucaria Grand Library Site of Grace to reload the area. Go outside of the library and at the entrance, you’ll see two summon signs.

Activating the gold summon sign will make you fight Jerren with Sellen by your side, while activating the red sign will do the exact opposite.

Whatever shall you choose? Helping Sellen, the mass murderer who killed her peers, or helping Jerren, the mass murderer who, well, killed Sellen’s peers.

Since it’s tough to decide, let’s look at the rewards instead and make up our minds:

  1. Side with Sellen: If you opt for helping Sellen in her pursuit of learning forbidden sorceries, then by defeating Jerren you’ll obtain his Eccentric Armor Set.
Sellen also rewards you with the Glintstone Kris dagger and will sell you the Shard Spiral sorcery.
Her character arc later comes to an end, and you’ll get to witness the unexpected fate of your mentor. You will be able to collect her Witch’s Glintstone Crown as well, and can even visit the locations of Master Azur, and Lusat to acquire their armor sets.
  2. Side with Jerren: Going against your teacher on the other hand will grant you the Witch’s Glintstone Crown as well as Sellen’s Bell Bearing upon killing her.
The Bell Bearing can be given to the Twin Maiden Husks back at the Roundtable Hold to buy any spells Sellen previously had but won’t include the Shard Spiral sorcery.
Interacting with Jerren outside the Grand Library after reloading the area will get you the Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone, and if you still want to get his armor set, then killing him there does indeed do the trick.

Well, there you have it. Sellen’s questline isn’t as complicated as the others Elden Ring has in store but it is hard to complete because of those damned illusory walls.

That’s a wrap on this guide, but if you’re looking for more Elden Ring stories, then Iron Fist Alexander’s subplot is an enjoyable ride. Or you could go on ahead and check out this list of overpowered weapons in the game.
