After spending a few hours wandering around East Raccoon City in Resident Evil Requiem, I hit that familiar wall: my ammo was low, my meds were gone, and the Crate Expectations trophy stubbornly refused to pop. I’d walked past at least two BSAA containers already without being able to open them, and I wrongly assumed they were just background props.
The breakthrough came when I realized two things:
This guide walks you through, step by step, how to get the key, where each container is, what’s inside, and how it all ties into the Crate Expectations trophy. I’ll also touch on the conflicting info about a possible “fourth” container near Ridgewood Station and the so‑called Legendary Tracking Module, so you know what to expect in your own run.
In Requiem, BSAA containers are big blue crates with numbered markings and BSAA logos. They show up during Leon’s Raccoon City section and are effectively mini treasure rooms.
Different guides disagree on how many containers there are. In my own playthrough (PC, launch patch), there were three locked BSAA containers in East Raccoon City plus one already-open container when you first get the key. Those three locked ones were all I needed for Crate Expectations to unlock. I’ll cover all of them below and then explain the Ridgewood Station confusion at the end.
Don’t waste time trying to pry open BSAA containers before the story actually gives you the key. The game is pretty strict about the timing here.
Here’s the exact flow that leads to the BSAA Container Key:
You can’t miss this key if you’re following the main story; it’s unmissable. As soon as the cutscene ends, you’re standing right next to your first BSAA container.
This is the first container you’ll open and the easiest to overlook because it’s practically handed to you during the cutscene.
Turn around from where Leon ends up after the cutscene and you’ll see the blue BSAA container already sitting there. In my run, this one was already open, acting more like a tutorial crate than a locked collectible. Still, don’t ignore it.
Inside, you’ll find:
From a trophy perspective, this Cedarbrook container is tied to the same key and story beat, but the game seems to focus Crate Expectations on the numbered, locked containers you open afterward. Regardless of how your challenge tracker counts it, grab the loot here-this is effectively your primer on how BSAA containers work.

The second major container is at the heart of East Raccoon City and is actually required for story progression, which makes it very hard to miss-but easy to forget to loot thoroughly if you rush.
When you first arrive at Central Camp, the container is locked, and you won’t have the key yet if you’re coming here early. Just note its position on your map and move on with the main objectives.
Once you’ve been through Cedarbrook, obtained the BSAA Container Key, and loop back to Central Camp, do this:
Inside, you’ll find two critical things:
Because this container is part of the main path, you don’t have to worry about missing it permanently, but don’t make my mistake of opening it and immediately triggering the bike scene without looting the smaller crates and shelves inside first. Quickly sweep the area before you initiate any obvious story prompts.

Ultimate Guide Strategy Guide + Weekly Pro Tips
This is the container I almost missed completely, and it’s also where Crate Expectations unlocked for me. It’s tucked into the eastern road network, not far from where you find fuel for generators.
Here’s how to reach it:
When you unlock and open this one, be ready-there are zombies waiting inside. In my run, they rushed immediately once the doors slid open.
Inside that inner crate you’ll find the real prize: the Marksman 1A semi-automatic sniper rifle plus some Rifle Bullets. On higher difficulties this weapon is a massive power spike—great for popping heads from a safe distance and dealing with tougher mutations later on.
After I looted this container, my Crate Expectations trophy/achievement unlocked, and the associated in-game challenge updated, confirming that all tracked BSAA containers in East Raccoon City were done.
Here’s where things get a bit messy. Some early guides (including the one this brief is based on) describe a fourth BSAA container near Ridgewood Station, by the Café Oasis and Applegate Hotel, supposedly containing a BSAA Emblem charm for sniper rifles and a high-value item often referred to as a Legendary Tracking Module.
In my own playthrough, the situation was different:
Because of this, I’d treat the Ridgewood/Applegate area as a bonus loot zone rather than a required BSAA container for Crate Expectations, at least on current patches. Still, it’s worth checking the street around the wrecked bus when you emerge from Ridgewood Station—there are strong zombies there (including spear users and a possible Blister Head mutation), and you can pick up valuable treasure that effectively serves the same purpose as a tracking module: a big chunk of credits/CP once you cash it in.
If your version of the game does show a numbered BSAA container there that uses the BSAA Container Key, open it exactly like the others and loot everything inside. Just be aware that guides disagree about whether this counts toward the trophy, and in my case, the trophy was already done by this point.
Having run back and forth across East Raccoon City more than I’d like to admit, here are the pitfalls to avoid and a few tricks to make the BSAA container hunt smoother:
Map → Place Marker so you remember to double back after getting the key.Menu → Challenges and confirm that Crate Expectations is progressing. This is the safest way to know if your game is tracking three or more crates.Once you’ve opened all tracked BSAA containers in East Raccoon City (for me, that was the Central Camp and underpass containers plus the initial Cedarbrook one), you’ll see the Crate Expectations trophy/achievement pop up.
On top of that:
If you methodically follow the order in this guide—Cedarbrook exit, Central Camp, then the underpass near the Gas Station—you’ll minimize backtracking and have your trophy, your rifle, and your bike ready without wasting time wandering aimlessly around Raccoon City.
Once that’s done, you can focus on the rest of Leon’s route knowing you’ve squeezed every last drop of value out of the BSAA’s ill-fated return to the city.
