Starfield: How to Reach Neon on Volii Alpha Quickly

Starfield: How to Reach Neon on Volii Alpha Quickly

FinalBoss·6/7/2026·5 min read

You heard Neon is a major hub, you searched the starmap for it, and it is nowhere to be found. That is because Neon is not its own planet or star system. It is a city landing site attached to Volii Alpha in the Volii system — and once you know the route, getting there is short.

The short version

  • Where: Neon is a city on Volii Alpha, in the Volii system. It is a landing zone, not a separate planet or system.
  • Route from New Atlantis: plot Alpha Centauri → Olympus → Volii. Olympus is your intermediate waypoint when your ship’s jump range can’t reach Volii in one hop.
  • Landing: select Volii system → Volii Alpha → Neon on the starmap. Don’t stop at the system or orbit layer.
  • First thing to do on arrival: walk from the spaceport into Neon Core so it unlocks as a fast-travel point for every future visit.

The route: Alpha Centauri to Volii

If you are coming from the early game around New Atlantis, you are starting in Alpha Centauri. The practical manual route is Alpha Centauri → Olympus → Volii, with Olympus as the intermediate waypoint. That middle stop matters specifically when your ship’s grav-jump range is too short to reach Volii directly — you hop to Olympus first, then jump on to Volii.

  • Open the Starmap from Alpha Centauri.
  • Plot a jump to Olympus.
  • From Olympus, jump to the Volii system.
  • Select the planet Volii Alpha — not just the system marker.
  • Choose Neon as the landing location.

If your ship can plot the jump straight to Volii without stopping at Olympus, take it — the direct line is fine. Olympus is only there as a fallback for limited jump range. For the broader picture of where Neon sits relative to Alpha Centauri and how early you can realistically go, see our guide on where Neon is and how to get there early.

Your first landing at Neon

The first arrival is slower than later visits because the city’s fast-travel points aren’t unlocked yet. You land at the spaceport and walk in. Do this once, deliberately, and the rest of your visits become a single fast-travel hop.

  • Exit your ship at the Neon landing area.
  • Follow the route from the spaceport into the city interior.
  • Keep going until you reach Neon Core and the district registers as discovered.

Neon Core is the one discovery you cannot skip. Unlock it and Neon turns from a clunky first landing into a quick repeat destination. Leave without pushing into the district and you repeat the slow spaceport walk every single time.

What to unlock first in Neon

While you are here, walk past a few key spots so they register for fast travel. Neon Core and Ebbside are districts; the rest are venues inside them.

  • Neon Core: the central district and your most useful general fast-travel point.
  • Ebbside: one of Neon’s main districts, worth discovering for side content and vendors.
  • Ryujin Industries HQ: the entry point for the Ryujin faction questline.
  • Enhance! clinic: where you edit your character’s appearance later on.
  • Astral Lounge: the club at the base of the Trade Tower, and Neon’s most recognizable landmark.

You don’t have to clear all of these on the first trip, but at minimum register Neon Core before you leave. Planning to go deep on the Ryujin storyline or the city’s other quests? Check our companion routes like how to reach Algorab and find Anchorpoint Station.

Common mistakes

  • Searching for “Neon” as a system or planet. It’s a landing zone. Target the Volii system → Volii Alpha → Neon, in that order.
  • Stopping at orbit. If you selected Volii but never see the city, you stopped at the system or planet layer. Click through to Volii Alpha, then pick Neon as the landing site.
  • Insisting on a single direct jump. If you can’t plot it, route through Olympus first — that’s exactly what the intermediate waypoint is for.
  • Leaving before unlocking Neon Core. Skip the walk into the district and you redo the slow spaceport approach on every return.
  • Flying in with contraband. Settled systems can scan your cargo, so a careless “quick stop” can turn into a fine. Clear contraband before you arrive.

Practical takeaway

Plot Alpha Centauri → Olympus → Volii, select Volii Alpha → Neon, and walk from the spaceport into Neon Core on your first visit so future trips are a single fast-travel hop. Remember the hierarchy — system, then planet, then city — and Neon stops being the thing you can’t find on the map and becomes one of the easiest hubs to revisit.
