After spending a couple of hours replaying Part 2 of Tales of Berseria Remastered on PC, I was reminded how easy it is to get turned around here. You’ve just escaped Titania, your ship wrecks near Hellawes, there’s a shady smuggling guild, a lizard-daemon named Dyle, and Exorcist Teresa (often misspelled Teressa) waiting to spring a trap. The game throws a lot at you in a short time.
This guide walks you step-by-step from the shipwreck all the way to escaping Hellawes by sea. I’ll show you how to:
If you stick with the steps below, this whole segment should take around 60-90 minutes on a first run, depending on how much you grind and explore.
Right after the escape from Titania, you crash near Hellawes. A young Malak boy heals Velvet and steals her compass. He’s important, but for now just follow the story.
You’ll immediately fight a daemon on the beach. Use this battle to warm up with the Liberation-LMBS system:
After the battle, follow the linear coastal path toward the destination icon (one of the nice touches in the Remastered version). You’ll pass a few basic chests and probably a Katz chest if you wander slightly off the path. Grab everything – early gear upgrades matter a lot in the next two boss fights.
Eventually you reach Hellawes’ main gate. It’s packed with guards and civilians, and you’re not getting in from the front. The Malak boy returns your compass and bolts – this is your cue.
Do this: follow him along the side of the gate area to a discreet storeroom entrance. This is easy to miss if you just stare at the gate, and on my first run I wasted several minutes circling the walls looking for some imaginary side door.
Inside the storeroom you’ll see crates of flamestone, a volatile local mineral. There’s no trick here yet – just move through the room and follow the dug-out tunnel.
The tunnel takes you under the city and spits you out by the docks. From there, you can climb a short set of stairs and enter Hellawes proper without bothering the guards.
Once inside the city:
When you reach the marked building, you’ll get a long cutscene with the guild, Rokurou, Magilou, and Exorcist Teresa. She calls the Malak boy “Number Two” and confronts the guild about smuggling. The guild blames everything on a lizard-daemon named Dyle, and they offer to repair your damaged ship if you take Dyle out.
This is your main objective for the next chunk of the game: “defeat” Dyle so you can get back to sea.
Before you can leave town, you have to meet Rokurou at the weapon shop (it’s marked on the map). This is easy to skip mentally because it feels like a side errand, but it actually unlocks an important system tutorial.
Inside the weapon shop you learn how to:
Personal tip: in this early section, only enhance weapons you’re confident you’ll keep for a bit (Velvet’s and Rokurou’s current blades are safe bets). I regretted dumping materials into random drops I replaced 20 minutes later.
With the weapon tutorial done, leave Hellawes through the same tunnel you used to sneak in. On the docks map, head toward the southwest exit – that path leads to a small village.
In the village, you’ll run into another Exorcist, Eleanor, and then a young girl who tells you Dyle is hiding in a northern cave. Before you rush out:
When you’re ready, take the north exit from the village to reach the entrance to Hadlow Hollow.
Hadlow Hollow is your first real dungeon in this part, and it’s where I used to waste the most time just running back and forth.
Key points as you enter:
I recommend fighting most enemies on Normal difficulty rather than dodging everything. You want a comfortable level and some extra Grade before tackling the boss. In the Remastered version, you can tweak encounter settings, but don’t overuse that here or you’ll walk into Dyle under-leveled.
Push deeper until you hit another save point near a large open chamber. That’s your final warning: save, check your items, and then move into the boss area to face Dyle.
Dyle looks intimidating the first time, but once you understand his patterns he’s very manageable. My first run I kept dying because I stubbornly stayed right in front of him eating breath attacks.
Dyle’s main threats:
Strategy that finally worked for me:
If you’re still struggling after a few attempts, dropping the difficulty down one notch just for this fight is totally fine. I had to do that on my very first playthrough; it’s better than burning all your items.
Once you beat Dyle, a cutscene reveals the truth: the guild is dirty, and they’re trying to pin their smuggling on him. Velvet offers him a deal and cuts off his tail as “proof” of his death.
After the Dyle scene, you receive the Bottomless Denore Bottle. This item is easy to overlook, but it’s one of the best quality-of-life tools for dungeon crawling.
What it does: instantly returns you to the entrance of the current dungeon with no cost and no limited uses. It’s “bottomless” – you can use it as often as you like.
To use it:
Esc (or your controller’s menu button).Items → Important Items.Don’t make my early mistake of walking all the way back through Hadlow Hollow on foot – the Bottle teleports you straight to the entrance. From there, exit back to the village, then to the docks, and re-enter Hellawes by the tunnel to report to the guild.
The guild “agrees” to repair your ship, and Rokurou drags you back to the weapon shop for a quick check-in. Make any final upgrades you want, then head back to the coast where your damaged ship is beached.
At the ship, the guild delivers the bad news: the keel is destroyed. In other words, ship repair isn’t happening; you’ll need a whole new vessel.
Meanwhile, a cutscene shows Teresa meeting her brother Oscar and swearing revenge for the injury Velvet gave him back on Titania. She decides to set a trap in Hellawes and uses Magilou as a hostage.
When you try to re-enter Hellawes, you’ll find:
Velvet and Rokurou decide to ask Dyle for help securing a new ship, which means a return trip to Hadlow Hollow – but this time you can do it fast.
Head back through the village to Hadlow Hollow again. This is where activating that warp point earlier pays off.
As soon as you enter the cave:
Use the warp point again to return to the entrance. Dyle will now appear outside with you. Time to hit Hellawes from the front.
Return to Hellawes’ main gate with Dyle in tow. This time, you’re not sneaking in – you’ll have to cut your way through exorcist guards.
These initial gate battles are simple warm-ups. Focus on:
Once you’re inside, you’ll notice Hellawes is eerily empty – civilians have been cleared out for Teresa’s trap. Head for the marked location in the city center to trigger the ambush.
You’ll need to survive several waves of exorcists and Malaks while Teresa taunts you. This part feels chaotic, but it’s mostly about staying alive rather than winning some perfect victory.
After a bit, a cutscene kicks in where Dyle blows up the flamestone storeroom, creating a huge distraction and breaking Teresa’s formation. Velvet seizes the opportunity, knocks Teresa aside, and you all make a break for the docks.
The real fight in this segment is on the docks: Teresa plus two Malaks. My first time through, I made the mistake of going straight for Teresa and got shredded by spell spam from the Malaks.
Party: Velvet, Rokurou, and Magilou. Number Two is still technically with Teresa at this point.
Recommended strategy:
Dealing with Teresa herself:
If you’re playing on a higher difficulty, Teresa and the Malaks can chain-stun you. Don’t be afraid to lower the difficulty temporarily if you’re stuck in a death loop; the story continues the same either way.
Once Teresa is defeated, a cutscene takes over. She orders Number Two to stop you, but Velvet turns it around, grabbing him and forcing him to unleash an arte that disables Teresa, Eleanor, and her Malak.
Velvet, Rokurou, Magilou, Dyle, and the Malak boy (soon to be named properly) hijack a ship and set sail. Onboard, you’ll chat with the crew and your party, setting up the next major arc.
Shortly after, pirates attack in the open sea. Velvet knows the ship isn’t built for naval combat and orders Dyle to steer toward nearby land so she can handle things on foot. That landing marks the end of this Part 2 segment and the start of your next set of objectives.
Once you’ve cleared this whole Hellawes section, the game really starts to open up. If I could redo my first run, I’d focus less on hoarding items and more on learning enemy patterns in these early bosses – it makes the rest of Tales of Berseria Remastered a lot smoother. If I can get through Teresa’s trap after faceplanting into it a few times, you absolutely can too.
