The Blood of Dawnwalker’s 4K/60 target requires Balanced upscaling

Rebel Wolves has set a far more useful PC target than the early requirement sheets suggested: The Blood of Dawnwalker aims for 4K at 60 FPS on Ultra with DLSS, FSR, or XeSS set to Balanced. An RTX 4070 Ti or Radeon RX 9070 is the stated GPU class, alongside an Intel Core i7-12700K or Ryzen 7 7800X3D and 12GB of VRAM.

That is an important asterisk, not fine print. Native 4K Ultra with ray tracing is brutally expensive in a modern Unreal Engine action-RPG. Balanced upscaling renders below the panel’s native resolution, then reconstructs the image. It is the practical route to a steady 60 FPS, especially during the dense combat and traversal sequences expected from Coen’s 14th-century Europe.

The rest of the final PC sheet is refreshingly grounded. Every tier requires 16GB of RAM, Windows 10 or later, DirectX 12, Shader Model 6.0, and 60GB free on an SSD. Which upscaler should you use?

The short answer is straightforward: use the upscaler built for your GPU first. NVIDIA RTX owners should begin with DLSS, Radeon users with FSR, and Intel Arc owners with XeSS. All three are supported, and the correct mode matters more than chasing an arbitrary “native” badge in the options menu.

Performance mode has a place at 4K when targeting 120Hz displays, but it is a poor default at 1080p. The lower internal resolution can leave fine foliage, hair, and moving edges looking unstable. Quality mode preserves more image information at 1080p; Balanced becomes the better compromise once 1440p Ultra or 4K Ultra enters the equation.

Quick PC readiness checklist

  • For 1080p/60 Medium: Check for at least a GTX 1060 or RX 580 with 6GB VRAM, 16GB system RAM, and the game installed on an SSD. Native rendering is reasonable; enable FSR or XeSS Quality if dense scenes pull frame-times down.
  • For 1080p/60 High: An RTX 2060 Super, GTX 1070 Ti, RX 5700, or Arc A750 with 8GB VRAM is the useful mark. Ray tracing is where Quality or Balanced upscaling earns its keep.
  • For 1440p/60 Ultra: The RTX 4060, RX 7600 XT, and Arc B580 tier is the intended hardware floor. Set DLSS, FSR, or XeSS to Balanced before cutting texture settings; 8GB VRAM can become tight at Ultra with RT.
  • For 4K/60 Ultra: Treat the RTX 4070 Ti or RX 9070 requirement as a Balanced-upscaling target, not a native-rendering promise. Confirm that the monitor or TV and cable path support 4K at 60Hz or higher through HDMI 2.1 or DisplayPort 1.4.

What the final requirements changed

The updated requirements are considerably less punishing than the April estimates, which ranged from RTX 3050 or GTX 1070-class hardware at the low end to an RTX 5090 for maximum 4K settings. The final list lowers the 1080p entry point to a GTX 1060 or RX 580 and frames the top-end target honestly around reconstruction technology.

That does not mean a GTX 1060 suddenly turns this into a carefree 1080p experience. Six gigabytes of VRAM is the floor, not comfortable excess, and an SSD is mandatory for the sort of asset streaming a current open-world RPG demands. Texture quality is the first setting worth reducing on cards that are technically supported but running close to their VRAM limit.

PC expectations versus console modes

PC is the only platform with a stated 60 FPS target. PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S offer Quality and Balanced modes: dynamic 4K at 30 FPS for Quality, and dynamic 4K at 40 FPS for Balanced. Neither listed console mode targets 60 FPS.

That makes the 1440p/60 PC tier especially attractive for players with an RTX 4060, RX 7600 XT, or Arc B580-class system. A properly configured Balanced upscaler at 1440p is generally a better trade than forcing native resolution and accepting uneven frame pacing. Coen’s half-human, half-vampire story can handle a slight reconstruction compromise; inconsistent combat response is the part players will feel immediately.
