Wandering Sword: How to Find Golden Scorpion and Unlock Its Route

Wandering Sword: How to Find Golden Scorpion and Unlock Its Route

FinalBoss·6/14/2026·5 min read

The Golden Scorpion in Wandering Sword trips people up because it is two things at once: an optional cave fight, and the trigger that opens a whole branch of side content. If you came here looking for it, you are almost certainly hunting the route it unlocks rather than the loot. Here is exactly where it lives, what defeating it opens, and which other “scorpion” quests to stop confusing it with.

The short version

  • Location: the deepest part of the cave above Monkey Woods, outside Qinghe Village.
  • What it does: defeating it opens the Southern Chronicles content and starts the Scorpion Envoy Route.
  • After the fight: follow the Scorpion Envoy thread on to Bramble Forest and Solitary Cloud Marsh.
  • Don’t confuse it: the Bamboo Sea scorpions are a separate antivenom quest, not this fight.

Where to find the Golden Scorpion

Start from Qinghe Village and head for Monkey Woods just outside it. The cave you want sits above Monkey Woods. The scorpion is not a surface encounter and it is not the first thing you meet inside — it is in the deepest part of the cave. That detail matters: people clear the entrance chambers, find nothing notable, and walk away assuming there was no trigger here at all. There is. Keep pushing to the back.

The route in four steps:

  • Travel to Qinghe Village.
  • Head out to Monkey Woods.
  • Enter the cave above Monkey Woods.
  • Push to the deepest chamber and beat the Golden Scorpion there.

What beating it unlocks

This is the reason to bother. Defeating the Golden Scorpion is the gate for the Southern Chronicles content, and it starts the Scorpion Envoy Route. The fight sits at the front of that branch, not the end of it — the payoff is the questline it opens, so treat the victory as step one of a checklist rather than a finish line.

From there the Scorpion Envoy thread continues to two more locations: Bramble Forest and Solitary Cloud Marsh (its dock is the Solitary Cloud Marsh Pier). If a guide you read calls these “Bramble Shade Forest” or “Solitary Mash Pier,” those are garbled names for the same two spots — head to Bramble Forest and Solitary Cloud Marsh.

If you are also tracking endings and chapter gates, our chapter-by-chapter walkthrough shows where this side content slots into the main story.

Don’t confuse it with the other scorpion quests

Most of the wasted time here comes from Wandering Sword using “scorpion” for several unrelated objectives. Two in particular get mistaken for the Golden Scorpion:

  • Herbal Saint Route. Here you take a scorpion to Liu Mayi in Gusu, which then arranges a meeting with the Herbal Saint. The scorpion is a carried item for this branch — it is not the Monkey Woods cave fight.
  • Deadly Scorpion side quest. This asks you to collect three Scorpions from the Bamboo Sea to make an antivenom for Tiedan, a recruitable character. These are ordinary quest materials, nothing to do with the route gate.

If your goal is the Scorpion Envoy Route, farming Bamboo Sea scorpions does nothing for it. The overlap is in the name, not the function. For who Tiedan is and which companions are worth recruiting, see our character recruitment guide.

Common mistakes

  • Stopping at Monkey Woods, not the cave above it. The trigger is inside the cave, in the deepest chamber — not in the woods themselves.
  • Leaving the entrance early. The front chambers have nothing special; the scorpion is at the back.
  • Treating every scorpion quest as the same thing. The Bamboo Sea antivenom quest and the Herbal Saint delivery are separate from the route gate.
  • Heading to the wrong follow-up spots. The Scorpion Envoy steps are at Bramble Forest and Solitary Cloud Marsh — ignore the misspelled “Shade Forest” and “Mash Pier” versions.

Practical takeaway

Go from Qinghe Village to Monkey Woods, enter the cave above it, push to the deepest chamber, and beat the Golden Scorpion. That single fight opens the Southern Chronicles content and starts the Scorpion Envoy Route, which then runs through Bramble Forest and Solitary Cloud Marsh. Keep it mentally separate from the Bamboo Sea antivenom quest and the Liu Mayi delivery in Gusu — same word, different quests. If you want to plan the rest of your run around it, our efficient early-route guide lays out the order to tackle this content in.
