Quick answer: Pocahontas is unlocked through the quest Whispers in the Wind, added by the Whispers of the Wind free update on April 8, 2026. Before Moana’s letter will arrive, you need three things done: Moana living in your Valley, Dazzle Beach unlocked (1,000 Dreamlight) and Forest of Valor unlocked (3,000 Dreamlight). Then it is a mailbox trigger, one piece of glowing algae on Dazzle Beach, a boat trip to a Mystery Island, some planks, a whirlpool fishing step, and a repaired necklace. Around 20 to 30 minutes if you know where to go.

Requirements before the quest can start

The quest does not appear in a brand-new save. The game runs a precondition check before it pushes Moana’s letter to your mailbox, and the most common reason players think the quest is bugged is one of these being missing.

RequirementHow to get it
Moana is a villagerOpen the Moana realm in the Dream Castle for 3,000 Dreamlight, complete After the Storm and How Far You’ll Go, then invite her and build her house.
Dazzle Beach unlocked1,000 Dreamlight. Required because the glowing algae is on that beach.
Forest of Valor unlocked3,000 Dreamlight. This one is a hard gate in the current build — not optional, despite what some older guides say.
Game updatedAny version from the April 8, 2026 update onward. On most platforms this is automatic.

If all four are true and no letter has arrived, sleep and reload the Valley — the mail check fires on load.

Step 1 – Trigger the quest from your mailbox

The quest starts from an in-game letter, not from a character marker.

  • Open any red mailbox in the Valley (there is always one near your house).
  • Find the letter from Moana, titled along the lines of “I’ve found something strange…”. She describes glowing algae she found on the beach.
  • Read it and claim any attached items.

Whispers in the Wind lands in your quest log — note that the quest and the update have slightly different names, which is why searching for the exact phrase sometimes turns up nothing. In German it is Das Flüstern im Wind.

Step 2 – Find the Glowing Algae on Dazzle Beach

The algae sits in a fixed world position on the ground, not in the water and not as a fishing spawn.

  • Head to the southern stretch of Dazzle Beach, toward the eastern side.
  • Look near the bottom of the stairs leading down to the sand. The Glowing Algae is lying on the ground with a faint shimmer.
  • Interact to pick it up. Sweep the surrounding sand while you are there and grab anything else that glows — some walkthroughs describe a second cluster nearby, and picking up everything shiny costs you nothing.

If you cannot see it: confirm the quest is active and tracked, zoom the camera in, and check you are on Dazzle Beach rather than a similar-looking shoreline. The glow effect is subtle at some times of day and on some brightness settings.

Bring the algae back to Moana and talk to her to advance.

Step 3 – Sail to the Mystery Island

This is not a Dream Castle realm, which trips people up: it is a story instance you enter from inside Moana’s house.

  • Go to Moana’s house, wherever you have placed it.
  • Inside, interact with the stack of boating equipment.
  • You travel to the Mystery Island.

Step 4 – Talk to the wind

  • On arrival, speak to Moana.
  • Find the Swirling Flower Petal Winds at the top of the slope, on the opposite side of the landing point from the boating equipment.
  • Interact to “talk to the wind”. Dialogue choices do not change the outcome — pick whichever lines you like.

You will also pick up a memory orb during this sequence. It is narrative flavour rather than a long-term item, so do not go hunting for a use for it later.

Step 5 – Collect wooden planks and build the path

This is the step that looks like a fishing puzzle but is not.

  1. Head north from the main area and look for wooden planks in shallow water. You pick these up directly by interacting — no fishing rod needed.
  2. Return to Moana and hand her the planks.
  3. Interact with the side of Moana’s canoe and transfer the planks from your inventory into the boat.

That builds a wooden walkway out from the shore, which is the platform you need for the next step. If the whirlpool looks unreachable, this is the step you have not finished.

Step 6 – Fish the Glowing Whirlpool

You need three Jewelry Pieces in total to repair Pocahontas’s necklace. Two come from wreckage and fishing spots around the island as you explore. The third is the one everyone gets stuck on.

  • Walk out onto the new wooden platform to reach the Glowing Whirlpool, east of the island’s main shore.
  • Equip your Royal Fishing Rod.
  • Cast at the orange ripples in the middle of the whirlpool — not the calm water around them. Aiming at the outer ring is the single most common reason this step fails.

That yields the third Jewelry Piece.

Step 7 – Repair the necklace and meet Pocahontas

  1. Open the crafting interface the quest prompts you to (a standard crafting station or the quest crafting screen, depending on your UI).
  2. Use the three Jewelry Pieces to craft the Repaired Necklace.
  3. Bring it to Moana.
  4. Return to the swirling wind and speak with Moana to talk to it one more time.

Pocahontas appears on the island. She is not in your Valley yet, though — there is one more step.

Step 8 – Place her Yehakin and finish the quest

  • Back in the Valley, open the Furniture menu and place Pocahontas’s Yehakin wherever you want. It appears as a foundation footprint first.
  • Interact with Scrooge McDuck’s sign in front of the foundation to finish construction. This triggers the Welcome Pocahontas screen and adds her to your villagers.
  • Speak to her again and agree to help plan a Celestial Celebration. That starts her first friendship quest line.

Once you have had that conversation, Whispers in the Wind is complete.

What comes after: Meeko, friendship quests and the Star Path

The April 2026 update shipped more than the unlock quest. Pocahontas arrives with her companion Meeko, and her friendship chain runs on from the Celestial Celebration into quests involving crafting special bait for him. The update also brought an elemental-themed Star Path and museum content, none of which is required for her unlock.

Once she is settled, she is a solid gardening and foraging companion for the same farming loops you use for cooking — useful if you are stockpiling ingredients for something like our Cheesecake farming guide.

Is this quest still current in July 2026?

Yes. No patch since April 2026 has changed the prerequisites or the item steps — the algae is still on Dazzle Beach on the ground, the Mystery Island is still entered through the boating equipment in Moana’s house, and the whirlpool still needs the Royal Fishing Rod on the orange ripples. If you are following a guide that mentions bugged algae spawns, that was a launch-window issue and is not how the quest behaves now.

Pocahontas is no longer the newest character, though. The Honeyglow Woods Adventure Pack (July 8, 2026) added a Hundred Acre Wood biome with Winnie the Pooh, Piglet and Eeyore, and the free Pixel Perfect update on July 29, 2026 brings Ralph from Wreck-It Ralph, a Pop City Star Path, the returning Summer Sizzle and Memory Mania events, and quality-of-life additions like multi-delete and multi-item gifting. Gameloft’s roadmap has a free update in September, a showcase in October revealing the next paid expansion, and another free update in December.

FAQ

Why has Moana’s letter not arrived?

Almost always a missing prerequisite. Check all three: Moana actually living in the Valley with her house built, Dazzle Beach unlocked, and Forest of Valor unlocked. That last one is the one people skip.

Do I need the Royal Fishing Rod?

Yes, for the whirlpool step. The planks earlier in the quest are picked up by hand, so do not waste time trying to fish them.

Do dialogue choices with the wind matter?

No. Pick whatever you prefer; the outcome is identical.

Is Pocahontas’s house free?

You still place the Yehakin foundation and confirm construction through Scrooge’s sign, exactly like other villager houses.

Practical takeaway

The three prerequisites are the real gate — Moana, Dazzle Beach and Forest of Valor. After that, the quest is short and linear: algae on the beach, boat from Moana’s house, talk to the wind, planks into the canoe, fish the orange ripples in the whirlpool, craft the necklace, place the Yehakin.
