Whispers of the Wind & Pocahontas – What This Quest Actually Does
The Whispers of the Wind quest (in German: „Das Flüstern im Wind“) is the entry point for bringing Pocahontas into Disney Dreamlight Valley. It is a short, self-contained chain that starts from your mailbox, takes you to Dazzle Beach and a small “petal” island, and ends with Pocahontas joining your village with her own (free) house.
Mechanically, the quest is a mix of:
A mailbox trigger
Two fixed collectible locations (glowing algae)
A short boat trip with Moana
A memory / picture puzzle
A scripted fishing step for a necklace
Placing Pocahontas’ house and finishing her introductory dialogue
In real playtime, the full process usually takes around 20-30 minutes if you already meet the requirements and know where to go. The sections below break down the entire flow of Whispers of the Wind in a strict, step-by-step format.
Requirements Before Whispers of the Wind Can Start
The quest does not appear in a brand-new save. The game checks for a few preconditions before it pushes Moana’s letter to your mailbox.
Make sure the following are true:
Game updated to the patch that adds Pocahontas / Whispers of the Wind. On most platforms this is automatic, but if you have disabled auto-updates, update manually before loading your valley.
Moana is already a villager in your valley:
You have unlocked the Moana realm via the castle.
You completed her realm quests and invited her.
Her house is placed and built in the valley.
Dazzle Beach is unlocked (you have spent Dreamlight to open the biome). This is required because the early steps take place there.
(Optional but recommended) Forest of Valor unlocked. Some Pocahontas-related follow-up content (like the raccoon companion Meeko) touches that biome. It is not strictly required for the initial Whispers of the Wind quest, but it keeps later steps smoother.
If these checks are satisfied, the game is ready to hand you Moana’s letter that starts the quest. If something is missing (most often Moana not yet being in the valley), the letter will not arrive.
Step 1 – Trigger “Whispers of the Wind” from the Mailbox
After loading into your valley with the correct version and requirements, the quest starts via an in-game letter, not from a character marker.
Procedure:
Locate any red mailbox in the valley (there is always one near your house, and additional ones near some biome entrances).
Interact with it (A / X on controller, or click on PC) to open your mail.
Find the letter from Moana. The English text is titled along the lines of “I’ve found something strange…”, with Moana describing a glowing algae on Dazzle Beach.
Read the letter and claim any attached items (if present). As soon as you exit the mailbox screen, the quest “Whispers of the Wind” (German: „Das Flüstern im Wind“) is added to your quest log.
From this point, you can track it like any other quest from your quest menu. The first objective will send you directly to Dazzle Beach.

Step 2 – Find the Glowing Algae on Dazzle Beach
Your first active task is to locate two pieces of Glowing Algae on Dazzle Beach. These are not random drops; they sit in fixed world positions, slightly shimmering so they stand out against the sand.
Use Moana’s fishing boat as your reference point:
Fast travel or walk to Dazzle Beach.
Locate Moana’s boat on the shoreline. This is the boat you normally upgrade for passive fish generation.
From the boat:
One piece of Glowing Algae lies along the stretch of sand to the left (when facing out toward the ocean). Walk a short distance; it should be clearly visible on the ground as a glowing, collectible item.
The second piece is located slightly inland, among a small cluster of three trees near the boat. Move around the trees and look for another glowing patch on the ground.
Pick up both algae by interacting with them. When you have both in your inventory, the quest objective will update to talk to Moana and proceed with the investigation.
Troubleshooting: if you do not see the algae, confirm that the quest is active and tracked, and that you are on Dazzle Beach, not a similar-looking shore. Zoom the camera in and slowly sweep the indicated areas; the glow effect can be subtle at some times of day or with certain lighting settings.

Step 3 – Sail with Moana to the Petal Island
With both Glowing Algae collected, talk to Moana. She will comment on the strange find and suggest sailing out to investigate further. This changes the function of her boat briefly from a passive fishing structure to a scripted travel point.
Use the boat like this:
Interact with Moana’s boat on Dazzle Beach.
Instead of the usual upgrade / collect-fish interface, you will see a prompt or dialogue option related to setting sail for the anomaly.
Confirm the travel. A loading transition will take you to a small, isolated petal-shaped island surrounded by water.
Once you arrive, Moana will be present on the island, and the next set of objectives will focus on exploration and memory fragments.
Step 4 – Collect the Memory and the Buried Items
On the petal island, the game introduces a compact, linear sequence: pick up a memory, dig up additional fragments, then solve a puzzle using them.
Systematically clear the island:
Look for a floating, glowing Memory Orb near the center of the island or by a distinctive feature (such as a rock or plant). Interact with it to add a new memory to your collection.
Scan the ground for two dig spots marked by the familiar golden sparkles you see for buried items in the main valley.
Equip your shovel and dig at each glowing spot. Each one contains an additional fragment or relevant quest item tied to the memory you just collected.
After you have the memory and both dug-up items, your quest log will push you toward interacting with the memory puzzle that these fragments belong to.

Step 5 – Solve the Memory / Picture Puzzle
The next phase is a simple assembly puzzle, mechanically similar to other image-based or snippet puzzles in Dreamlight Valley content. You use the fragments you just collected to reconstruct a correct image or pattern.
The exact interface can vary slightly with UI settings, but the core behaviour is consistent:
A puzzle screen opens, showing a target layout with empty or faded slots.
On one side (usually the left), you see several snippets or tiles representing parts of an image or shapes.
You need to drag or place these snippets into the correct positions so that the final arrangement forms a coherent picture.
There is no timer, and there is no penalty for trial and error. A practical way to approach it is to start with the most distinctive pieces-corners, edges, or unique colors-and line them up with matching outlines in the target area. Once the final configuration is correct, the game will automatically recognise the solution and advance the quest.
If you exit the screen mid-puzzle, you can re-open it using the prompted interaction on the island, and your progress is typically preserved, so you are not locked out by experimentation.

Step 6 – Build the Plank to Reach the Disturbance
Completing the puzzle reveals the location of a further disturbance over the water-a point you cannot reach by simply walking around the small island. At this point the quest has you construct a plank or makeshift boardwalk to access the phenomenon.
The island will provide or unlock a temporary crafting station and a special recipe related to the quest (a plank or similar bridge object). The recipe uses basic construction materials you are already familiar with in early- to mid-game Dreamlight Valley (for example, common wood types or other simple resources). The exact component list is visible in the crafting interface.
Workflow:
Interact with the crafting station on the petal island.
Locate the quest-marked recipe (highlighted or grouped under a special tab).
If you already carry the necessary materials, craft the plank immediately.
If you are missing materials, you can leave the island via the boat, gather what you need in the main valley, then return and craft the item.
Once crafted, follow the quest markers to place the plank at the indicated edge of the island, creating a short path out over the water.
Placing the plank will visually extend the accessible area toward a visible water disturbance, setting up the dedicated fishing step.
Step 7 – Fish Up Pocahontas’ Necklace
At the end of the plank, you will see a special fishing spot, usually represented by a notable whirlpool or unusual ripple in the water, distinct from regular fishing bubbles on Dazzle Beach.
To complete this segment:
Equip your fishing rod as usual.
Stand at the end of the plank and face the disturbance.
Cast your line directly into the center of the special pool.
Complete the standard fishing mini-game sequence (wait for the visual / audio cue, then press the interact button as the shrinking circles line up).
Instead of ordinary fish, this catch yields a necklace quest item. The drop is scripted—there is no RNG or need to repeat casts if you hit the correct spot. As soon as the necklace is in your inventory, the quest objective will change and direct you to repair it.

Step 8 – Repair the Necklace
The next phase is a straightforward crafting step: you use another quest-specific recipe to transform the damaged necklace into a Repaired Necklace. This is the final key item that links the petal island event to Pocahontas herself.
Complete the repair as follows:
Return to the crafting station on the island (or, if directed, to a station in your valley).
Open the crafting menu and navigate to the quest section.
Select the new recipe that upgrades the broken necklace into its repaired form. The recipe uses the necklace you fished up plus a small set of additional materials (again, common resources you should have access to by this stage).
Craft the Repaired Necklace.
When the necklace is repaired, talk to Moana again if prompted. A story beat will play out explaining the connection to Pocahontas. After this dialogue, Pocahontas will be ready to be summoned to your valley, and you will receive the plans for her house.
Step 9 – Place Pocahontas’ House and Finish the Intro Quest
With the necklace complete, the final segment behaves like any other character unlock in Disney Dreamlight Valley: you place a house, the character moves in, and you close out the introductory quest.
Key points for Pocahontas’ house:
You receive a set of house plans for Pocahontas as a quest item.
Open the Furniture menu, go to the Houses section, and locate Pocahontas’ home.
Choose a location in your valley and place the construction sign as usual.
Unlike many earlier characters, Pocahontas’ house for this update is free to build—there is no Star Coin construction fee through Scrooge McDuck for this particular placement.
Confirm placement; a short animation will complete the build and Pocahontas will appear in the valley, associated with that house.
After the house is established, locate Pocahontas (she will typically be near her home initially) and speak with her. This conversation resolves the Whispers of the Wind quest and flags Pocahontas as a fully available villager, enabling her friendship track and any follow-up missions, including those that involve her raccoon companion Meeko once you progress further.
Troubleshooting and Efficiency Tips
Several failure points during this quest come from missing preconditions or simply not seeing objects in the world. The following checks cover the most common issues.
Moana’s letter not in the mailbox
Verify that Moana is already a villager with her house fully built.
Confirm Dazzle Beach is unlocked; if not, spend Dreamlight to open it first.
Save and reload the game after updating to ensure the quest trigger runs once.
Glowing Algae not visible
Make sure Whispers of the Wind is the active tracked quest.
Double-check that you are searching near Moana’s boat on Dazzle Beach, not on another shoreline.
Walk the left-side sand and the small three-tree cluster slowly with the camera zoomed in; the glow effect can blend with bright daytime lighting.
Unable to access the petal island
Do not try to swim or walk there; it is only reachable via scripted travel from Moana’s boat.
If the boat shows only regular fishing options, re-talk to Moana first and ensure the quest stage is asking you to investigate.
Stuck on the memory puzzle
There is no penalty for guessing. Prioritise matching edges and distinctive colors.
If the interface bugs, back out and re-open the interaction point to reset the puzzle screen.
Missing materials for the plank or necklace repair
You can leave the island and return later; the quest does not fail on a timer.
Use your regular valley crafting stations if you prefer; the recipes remain available once unlocked.
Pocahontas’ house placement issues
If the house cannot be placed, you may be trying to set it on terrain with obstructions. Switch to a flatter area or clear trees and rocks first.
Remember that for this quest, no Star Coins are required; if the game asks for a payment, confirm that you are placing the correct (quest-given) house, not another one from Scrooge’s catalogue.
Once these elements are in place, Whispers of the Wind is a tightly controlled sequence: the algae, island, puzzle, fishing, and house all progress in a fixed order with no randomisation. Running it cleanly is largely about knowing where the quest-specific interactables are and understanding that the boat and crafting stations temporarily change functionality for this storyline.
