If you finished Wandering Sword and cannot find Mirage Realms anywhere on the map, you are not bugged and you did not miss a hidden corner mid-story. The mode that older guides call the Mirage Realm or Mirage Tower simply does not exist on a fresh save. It opens only after you reach an ending, and once it does, it stays available on that save and every later one.
Mirage Realms is Wandering Sword’s endgame trial mode, surfaced in-game as the Mirage Tower. It is not a story side area you wander into. The unlock requirement makes that obvious: you need to reach an ending before it opens. After that, the area is permanently accessible on that save file and any later one, so you do not have to re-clear the game to keep using it.
Structurally it is a set of separate trials, each a graded combat challenge with its own conditions. That is why the completion achievement is worded around finishing all Mirage Realms challenges rather than beating one fight, and it is why you should treat the mode as a gauntlet that punishes gaps in your build instead of a single boss check.
Once you have reached an ending, the trigger is a specific NPC, not a random map sweep:

If you finished the story and nothing happens, the most common cause is the order: you have to talk to the Pingkang City fast-travel NPC to get Mirage Forest, then clear Mirage Forest to surface the Tower. Older walkthroughs that send you straight to a fixed coordinate or a scripted event predate this flow and will waste your time.
Two things trip people up. First, the unlock is gated behind an NPC conversation on the world map, so a player who beats the game and immediately scans the map for a new dungeon will not see anything until they pass the fast-travel NPC at Pingkang City. Second, the area changes its own name: it starts as Mirage Forest and only becomes the Mirage Tower after you clear it, so a guide referencing one name while you are looking for the other feels like a dead end.
There is also a naming trap. Not every “mirage”- or illusion-labeled place is the trial mode. Eastern Sea DLC content and other illusion-themed areas exist separately, so confirm you are at the Pingkang-triggered Mirage Forest before deciding your unlock is broken.
The trials pay out properly, which is the real reason to push them:
Because the payouts are this strong, the Mirage Tower is worth clearing in full rather than running once for the achievement. The 5th cultivation slot in particular changes how much you can stack onto a single carry.

Ultimate Guide Strategy Guide + Weekly Pro Tips
Mirage Tower trials reward breadth, not one over-tuned trick. Round out the account before you commit:
For a read on how hard Mirage content runs, the Xungu Pass fight is a useful gauge. After reaching Xungu Pass, head northwest to an Oasis, where a Mirage Swordsman appears near the tents. The encounter is a one-on-one centered on Yuwen Yi against a very strong Mirage Boss. It is a duel, so there is no party to soak damage — the character you bring has to win it alone.
The point is the difficulty signal. Mirage fights are tuned as real tests, which lines up with Mirage Realms being a genuine endgame mode. If your build only holds up when a fight goes exactly to plan, a Mirage trial is where that weakness gets found.

Wandering Sword uses “mirage” and “illusion” naming in a few places, and only the Pingkang-triggered Mirage Forest / Mirage Tower is the trial mode. Mirage Waters is a separate documented location, and Illusion Forest is its own area — thematically adjacent, but not the challenge gauntlet. If a guide points you at one of those expecting trials, you are in the wrong place.
Reach an ending, talk to the fast-travel NPC in front of Pingkang City to unlock Mirage Forest, clear it to open the Mirage Tower, and treat the trials inside as a full endgame gauntlet. Bring deep manuals, broad recruits, and gear flexibility, because the payouts — Shen Pearls for a 5th cultivation slot and one-time move-learning items — are worth clearing every trial, not just the first.
