Where to find the Sanctum of Expiation

The Sanctum of Expiation sits in Demeniss, and it is one of three sanctums in the Witch of Strength questline, so you need Areciel’s request active before the cleansing will progress.

• Open your map and head to the Demeniss region.
• Aim for the area northwest of the Kingshield Mountains and east of Drakesfall Gorge.
• The sanctum is just north of the Gate of Truth — use the nearest fast-travel point to cut the ride.

If you started this quest expecting a “Witch of Goodness” sanctum, that is a different chain entirely. The Witch of Goodness has her own shrines elsewhere, so do not try to force this Demeniss sanctum to fit that questline.

The sanctum is a light traversal-and-puzzle room rather than a long fight, but two Axiom skills do almost all of the work, so unlock them first.

How to clear the Sanctum of Expiation step by step

Step 1: Clear the blocked paths with Focused Light

Inside the ruins, several routes are choked with thorns and overgrowth. Use Focused Light to burn them away. This opens the path to the device area and to the room where the cube piece is hidden, so do it before you start moving parts around.

Step 2: Find the cube piece

The cube piece sits behind windows in the northeast corner of a room you reach by breaking through the floor on top of the ruins. Drop in, grab it, and bring it back toward the central device.

Step 3: Grab the Fusion Reactor Core: XIV-I

The reactor item you are working with is the Fusion Reactor Core: XIV-I (shown in some localizations as core 14-1). Use Axiom Force to grab it from the device area in the northwest of the room. Forget any guide that calls this “#54-1” or a separate “Core #3” — there is one fusion core plus the cube piece you just collected.

Step 4: Seat the core and power the device

With the cube piece and the core in hand, line them up with the central mechanism and use Force Palm to push the core into place. Once everything is seated, the device powers up and the sanctum registers as cleansed.

Reward for cleansing the sanctum

Cleansing the Sanctum of Expiation unlocks the Kuku Lighting-Resistant Armor blueprint. Because the armor resists lightning, it pairs well with builds you are putting together while you unlock the rest of the elements, and it is a clean upgrade if you are still piecing together your best abyssal gear.

Common mistakes

• Searching in Hernand: the Sanctum of Expiation is in Demeniss. Hernand’s sanctums have different names entirely.
• Tying it to the wrong witch: this is Areciel’s (Witch of Strength) sanctum, not a Witch of Goodness shrine. Those are a separate chain.
• Chasing the wrong core number: the item is the Fusion Reactor Core: XIV-I. There is no “#54-1” or “#3” core to track down.
• Skipping Focused Light: if the path to the cube piece looks blocked, you have not burned the thorns yet — that skill is the gate, not a locked door.
