The Sigil of Valor is the item that turns your dog from a follower into a fighter, and it costs 8 Silver from a single wandering vendor. That vendor is Lacey, a Shai girl with a backpack who runs a Secret Shop in Florindale — the northern sub-village of Pororin, southeast of Hernand. The two things that stop people: Pororin is sealed until you finish the Unreachable Village questline, and Lacey is a morning-only vendor. Most guides say she is out 9am–5pm; player testing in Pororin specifically puts her window closer to 9am to noon. Show up at 10am with 8 Silver and this takes minutes.

The short version

  • Item: Sigil of Valor. Equips to your dog’s accessory slot and lets it attack in combat. Not “Talisman of Valor” — that naming is a localization artifact.
  • Vendor: Lacey, a small Shai child with a backpack who shows a ??? marker when you examine her. She runs a Secret Shop and roams on foot.
  • Where: Florindale, the northern subsidiary village inside the Pororin area (Grace Estate), southeast of the Hernand region.
  • When: Morning. She appears around 9–10am and is reliably gone by around noon.
  • Price: 8 Silver.
  • Gate: The Unreachable Village / Trembling Woods faction questline must be complete before you can enter Pororin at all.

What the Sigil of Valor actually does

Equipped, the Sigil makes your dog participate in fights — bite and lunge attacks, run-ins on enemies you are already engaging. Set expectations correctly: this is not a second damage dealer. The dog attacks intermittently. It adds pressure, staggers small enemies, and helps mop up weak packs, but it will not meaningfully change a boss fight.

What makes it worth grabbing early is the price-to-effect ratio. At 8 Silver it is one of the cheapest companion upgrades in Crimson Desert, and it slots into the pet accessory system that arrived with the 1.04 update alongside the Sigil of Bonding and the hidden pet-gear shop. If you have been ignoring the pet systems entirely, this is the cheapest possible entry point.

The real gate: unlocking Pororin

Money is never the problem here. Access is. Pororin is a hidden Shai village and it stays sealed until you clear the faction quest that opens it. Walk toward it early and the Shai sentries sleep-dart you and dump you outside. That is not a bug — it is the trigger.

The chain works like this:

  • Get knocked out three times. Deliberately approach the village border around Pororin / Trembling Woods until the Shai tranquilize you on three separate attempts.
  • Meet the Shai contact. After the third knockout, a Shai — named Arklin in some sources, transcribed Arkin in others — offers help and marks a meeting spot in Trembling Gorge (Demeniss). Track this from your journal under the Hernand faction line rather than hunting map icons.
  • Climb the walking tree. The quest sends you after a giant walking tree; you climb it and take the Pororinian relic from its head.
  • Return the relic. Hand it back to the Shai and you are granted permission to enter. Pororin and Florindale open up, and their vendors become reachable.

Two shortcuts worth knowing. First, if you already tamed a bird using the Sotdae of Bond — the feeder used for the Iron Eagle and Hyacinth Macaw tames — you have already done this questline, because the Sotdae comes from the same Pororin Forest Guardians chain. Go straight to Lacey. Second, the “big tree” people mention in forum posts is where Lacey wanders, not where the quest starts. Do not circle a tree waiting for a quest-giver.

Finding Lacey in Florindale

With Pororin open, head to Florindale. This is where older guides contradict each other, because “Pororin” and “Florindale” both get used as the location. They are not competing answers — Florindale is the northern subsidiary village inside the Pororin complex, and Lacey is described in most sources as “the Pororin Secret Vendor in Florindale.”

She does not have a stall. She walks. Look for her:

  • Around the big central tree in Florindale — the most commonly reported spot.
  • Along the main paths and roads through Florindale and the surrounding Pororin trails.

She is a small Shai child carrying a backpack, and she reads as ??? when you target her rather than showing a merchant name. There is no shop icon on your map until you have opened her shop once — after that, an icon can appear while she is active, which makes the second visit far easier than the first.

The timing correction

This is the single most useful update to this guide. The generic advice for Crimson Desert’s secret shops is 9am to 5pm, and that is what most write-ups repeat. For Lacey specifically, player testing in Pororin consistently finds her spawning around 9–10am and leaving by roughly noon. PC Gamer’s location write-up puts her at around 10am.

Practical rule: rest or advance time until early morning, then arrive. If you turn up at 2pm and cannot find her, you are not unlucky and the game is not bugged — you are simply late. Advance to the next morning and walk the central paths again.

Buy it and — this part matters — equip it

In Lacey’s Secret Shop the Sigil of Valor is 8 Silver. Because the Secret Shop is a dialogue-gated vendor, the trade option can sit behind her opening lines instead of greeting you with a shop window. Read past the first line and look for the shop or trade branch before assuming she is not the right NPC.

Owning the Sigil does nothing on its own. Open your pet or companion equipment screen and slot it into the dog’s accessory slot. If your dog is still passive after the purchase, the item is sitting unequipped in your inventory — that is the cause roughly every time.

How to confirm it worked

  • The Sigil appears in the dog’s equipment slot, not just your bag.
  • In combat the dog breaks off from following and makes attack runs.
  • You see bite and lunge animations when enemies are in range.
  • The help is intermittent, not constant. That is expected behaviour, not a downgrade.

Test on a weak overworld pack rather than a boss. Small fights make the change obvious immediately.

What else is worth doing while you are in the pet systems

Crimson Desert’s companion content has grown considerably across 2026, and the Sigil is a good on-ramp to the rest of it:

  • Patch 1.04 introduced the pet accessory slot and the secret pet-gear shop that Lacey belongs to, added bird pets as a category, five new cat types, pet and horse renaming, and let Abyss Heuklang be tamed as a companion.
  • Patch 1.05 (2 May 2026) added the legendary birds — the Iron Eagle and the Hyacinth Macaw — plus the Mountain God Boar and a new disguise shop.
  • A later patch opened up wild-animal mounts: bears, boars, wolves, deer, mountain goats, kuku birds, iguanas, raptors, camels, lions and tigers can all be tamed and registered as special mounts by raising trust through feeding, with the more aggressive ones needing to be subdued in combat first.
  • Patch 1.09 added roughly 30 new pets, a dye room, and new combat skills for Damiane and Oongka.
  • Patch 1.11 (12 June 2026) raised the registered-pet cap to 100 with 50 summonable at camp, gated behind new Continued Journey: Pets challenges.

If you are building out the menagerie, our baby wyvern egg and hatch guide covers the flying companion, the Iron Eagle Hawkstone guide handles the other legendary bird, and our horse healing guide keeps your mount usable. Everything else we cover lives on the Crimson Desert hub.

Common mistakes

  • Hunting the vendor before Pororin is open. If the village is still sealed, finish the Unreachable Village chain first — deliberately get darted three times to start it.
  • Searching in the afternoon. Lacey is a morning vendor. Roughly 9am to noon is the reliable window in Pororin.
  • Expecting a stall or a map icon. She roams on foot and has no icon until after your first purchase.
  • Dismissing her dialogue. The Secret Shop option can sit behind the first line of text.
  • Buying it and stopping. Inventory possession changes nothing. Equip it to the dog’s accessory slot.
  • Looking for a “Talisman of Valor.” The item is the Sigil of Valor.

FAQ

Does the Sigil of Valor work on pets other than the dog?

It is documented as the item that lets your dog fight, and it uses the pet accessory slot introduced in 1.04. Other pet accessories exist — the Sigil of Bonding is the other one people confuse it with — but combat participation is the Sigil of Valor’s specific effect.

Can I buy more than one?

The price is listed per unit at 8 Silver, so bring extra if you intend to kit out more than one companion. There is no reported purchase limit.

Is Lacey the same vendor who sells the Sotdae of Bond?

No. The Sotdae of Bond comes from the Pororin Forest Guardians / Trembling quest chain in southern Hernand. Lacey sells pet gear from her roaming Secret Shop. They are linked only in that both sit behind the same village unlock.

Has any of this changed in recent patches?

Nothing in the vendor, the price, or the effect has been reported as changed through the mid-2026 update cycle. The 8 Silver price and the Florindale location still match current guides as of July 2026. What has changed around it is scale — more pets, higher caps, more accessories.

Practical takeaway

Three links in a chain. Clear the Unreachable Village questline so Pororin opens. Arrive in Florindale in the morning — 9am to noon, not the afternoon — and walk the central paths until the Shai girl with the backpack and the ??? marker shows up. Buy the Sigil of Valor for 8 Silver, then equip it in your dog’s accessory slot. For the price of a rounding error, your dog stops jogging behind you and starts biting things.
